The Fall 2006 Blogging for Progress competition has now ended. We took a snapshot of the database at 12 noon PST today, and we will be checking the results, adding appropriate bonus points, and contacting potential winners over the next few days. It normally takes about one week for this process to be completed, so look for an announcement of the winners early next week.
We know there has been a lot of tension the last couple of weeks, but we hope you will all step back and take a moment to reflect on your accomplishments. Here are some quick statistics. In two short months, ProgressiveU bloggers:
- made almost 7,000 blog posts
- received over 1 million readers
- wrote almost 10 million words
While there is always much debate about the quality of some of those posts, there can be no doubt that as Progressive U members you are exercising your brains much more than the average MySpace user! You are more up-to-date on news, politics, social issues, and current events than most students, more aware of various viewpoints held by people your age around the country, and better prepared to tackle problems in your communities. Even if you had disagreements, you all deserve props for what you have done in such a short time.
So please take a breather, but feel welcome to keep coming back to post more, even between contests. Many members report that blogging is even more satisfying during the "off season." We will announce our plans for the next competition early next year.
UPDATE: Tune in tomorrow night (December 12), after 5pm Pacific time, for the announcement of this semester's winners.
