I Pledge, Do You?

Did you know that in the Texas State Legislature it says that all sutdents in Texas Should say the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag and to the Texas flag, and that we should also have to stand for a whole minute of a moment of silence.  I think this is one of the greatest things to come to Texas. What a great way of showing  your respect, honor, and appreciation for thsi great country and state in which we live.  The moment of silence is especially great because it is the one time of day when students have complete silence to think about whatever they want to think about, whether it be to pray or to quiz yourself on the test next period.  The problem in Texas however is that schools do not abide by this.  In my first period class (the class in which we are supposed to do all of this) I am the only one who says either pledge.  This upsets me tremendously. It shows complete disrespect for our country, a country that gives so much freedom and a country that we should be so grateful for.  Not only do the students nor the teacher say the pledges but during the moment of silence, some sit down.  This is not only disrespect to teh Texas State Legislature but it is disrespect to fellow students and everyone around you.  The other day i was in the hallway as the announcer for the pledge came on the intercom and two Assistant Principals were walking in the hall as well.  We all stopped to say the pledges however i did not hear one word come out of either of their mouths.  Now waht kind of representation is this to my school, state, and country?  A poor one if you ask me.  I was so upset about this incident i went to the Principal and expressed my feelings about the whole situation, sadly this was about three weeks ago and things have not changed.  Am I out of line, am I expecting too much from my peers and administration, should Texas do something about this, what should I do about this?

I went to school in Nevada and almost everybody said the pledge everyday. We didn't do the state pledge ( I don't even know it anymore) or the minute of silence, but the people who didn't pledge were definitely in the minority. Anyone who didn't say the pledge was protesting the way America was acting or whatever. I personally don't say the pledge because I don't like to pledge loyalty to organizations. I like to pledge to ideas.
