GAME(kind of fun actually, pretend you are ruler of the world)--->

Many of use are wondering why it's so difficult to balance the budget and of course it lends itself to the fact that multiple parties are responsible for creating a Federal Budget every fiscal year. Why things get cut. Why certain things get more funding. Why you eliminate certain things.

As a class we did a little balancing the budget simulation. To be frank, it's quite easy..when you do it alone on a screen scrolling down choices ranging from "eliminate", cut, or increase. When you look at these numbers and none of them affect you,it is even easier to disregard just about everything, because when someone in the Federal government cuts Social Security it's just a number.

The key thing to the deficit is probably the war and some tax breaks. I initially took the proper approach of eliminating the miscellaneous things, but after a while it became harder to bring the deficit down. This is when you start tapping in the to social funds. It is no wonder why politicians sleep at night. Nothing affects them.

Social Security? their retirement is already to go
Welfare? they don't need it
Housing Plans? They are well-sheltered
Education? Most their children go to private schools or public schools located in great areas
Veterans? Even if some of them are veterans in Congress, I doubt they need the extra subsidies

When it doesn't hit home, it doesn't carry any meaning to you. I guess you could argue that their constituencies would get mad and haze them, but when you're in the House or Representatives the way you vote isn't as public as that of the Senate.

After you get into the numbers, the people begin to matter less. There is no picture next to the numbers.

Yeah,to balance the budget I removed the war completely AND I cut military spending.I even forgot about North Korea and practically invited them. I have no idea what I did, but I managed to have a -0.11b deficit. :D.

Note: If you choose to be creative in the game and eliminate spending on anything, that pretty much put the Federal Government at a halt.

You get this response ---->"You've cut so much that the federal budget now contains a substantial surplus. Many economists warn that this budget may help induce or prolong a recession, and ordinary citizens demand a refund. You might want to cut taxes or raise spending."

It's fun to waste time away with.

You know were in trouble when the numbers are just numbers and dont mean a thing to out politicians... I can see how that happens but still you know its bad when that happens.
