Taking care of our Country. A voice for the unwanted Children of America.
I have had a desire now for a while to go into Foster care and be a safe home for children that are in the System and don't really have a place to call home. My desire was sparked by my mother n law who decided to do Foster Care in 1999 and has since adopted four children (siblings) since. Instead of retiring right now or being close to retirement, they have decided to devote their lives to these four children who came from a very sad, rough, and abusive home. My goal here is to make people more aware of the many many children out there who don't even have a place to call home. Not everyone is meant to foster or adopt a child, it takes a special person or family to do such a thing, but if more of us would find a way to create a life for a child, whether it's being a "Big Brother, BIg Sister", doing Foster Care, or making donations to organizations in need, we need to start focusing on our Children of America and taking care of our Future.

Go mother-in-law! Thats a great thing that she has devoted her life to. Even though the pay is not as rewarding these kinds of jobs(socail work etc.) The feeling you get knowing you are actually helping lives with worth it
:O) good topic
Yes, I am very blessed and proud to have such a great in-law family!! Thanks for the wonderful comments. I am new to this and not sure what I am doing.
Foster care not only helps the kids who are "in the system," but it also reduces the overpopulation problem.
What I found amazing was that she adopted all four siblings. Those kids already coming from a terrible and abusive home, I can't imagine what it would do to me if after that trauma I was separated from my brothers and sister. I know it isn't possible in all situations but I admire your mother-in-law for allowing those kids to stay together!
She had them in Foster Care first and then when the State was going to adopt them out seperatly, they decided to adopt them. They couldn't imagine the kids being seperarted after all they had been through. They are wonderful children and have come A LONG way in seven years. They will always have issues due to the abuse they have endured, but they at least have a chance in life now!!

I think that its amazing, it really takes a certain kind of person to do this. I wish that kids didn't have to go through that abusive homes and such but its gret to know that there are people out there trying to help them have a better life.
we need more people to step up to the plate and help the many children out there that still needs homes. It amazes me the amount of time we all put into other things that don't even have as much importance, but we can't find the time to help these helpless children. I also believe that we focus on taking care of other countries out there that have children in Foster care and aren't even looking at our own Countries needs. I find it very sad. Now don't get me wrong, I am not putting anyone down for adopting internationally cause my brother and sister n law just adopted a baby girl from Guatamala, but I do believe that we need more people to start focusing on America's children too because they are our future.

You are a wonderful person for aspiring to do foster care, there are many children out there who could use help. I have always thought that when I am older I would love to adopt, maybe one day I will. I hope more people have an attitude like yours to make the world a better place for children.
I too hope to at least help make more people aware of the need out there. I hope one day you will adopt a child and give them a good and loving home. It takes someone with a special heart to do something like that.

All we can do is hope that there are more people like you out there.
I think that adopting a child is a blessed thing. You are saving them, from then you know. Please people consider it - think of all the lives you can save!
