Today, my girlfriend came up to me. She was on the verge of tears, and tried her hardest to keep back the tears. So I asked her what was wrong.

I am not sure as to why your girlfriend was crying. If it's not true, then what is the problem? Perhaps your sister didn't mean to . Try talking to her calmly. If you yell at her, you'll only make things worse. I doubt anyone can answer those questions for you except your sister. It doesn't seem like she realize the consequences of what her gossips would do. Why would you break up because of some rumors?
