Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle
Journal 2 of 9
Holmes with the help of Watson is trying to figure out a suspect in the killing of Sir Charles Baskerville. They know that Charles ha d a habit of walking down the famous yew alley of Baskerville Hall every night before going to sleep. The night before he was to leave for London, he was out on his walk and from the ashes that were left by the fate he stood waiting for some ten minutes. He then continued on and his footstep pattern changed and he was found face down in the alley. Dr. Mortimer is also helping Holmes and Watson on this case. Dr. Mortimer was the so called crime scene investigator on this case. Mr. Henry Baskerville is brought to London to take over Charles Baskervilles position. He is the las of the Baskervilles. He would be the son of Sir Charles Baskerville's younger brother. An unknown person is keeping close tabs on Henry's every move. They sent him a letter to the hotel he was staying at saying “As you value your life or your reason keep away from the moor” (pg 35). And no one was told where he was staying at. I believe that Dr. Mortimer will be of some great deal of help in this case. Since he was at the crime scene of Charles. He was the only one to take not of some strange tracks found 30 yards from the body. Which may be a clue. Holmes and Watson may possibly use Henry Baskerville as bate to catch the killer. Since every Baskerville to live in the house house has died, maybe Henry's fate will fall the same. It's possible that someone just doesn't want people living in that house for some unknown reason.
