When Drinking is the Ultimate Pastime

Maybe I should feel bad for alcoholics and drunks. They don’t understand what they’re missing in life.

To those of you who settles in every night for a drink you desperately need…

To those of you who only ever orders alcoholic beverages at restaurants, because that’s all you drink…

To those of you who jokingly say to friends that you need to get them drunk…

To those of you whose only entertainment or calming down time is sitting at a bar…

…I think I pity you. You don’t understand the vast opportunities presented to you, because you hide behind your funny-named drinks. You don’t see how much fun life can be because the only enjoyment you’re interested in is in that temporary buzz. Let me give you an idea of what you’re missing out when the only thing you do is work and drink.

Kayaking, swimming, flying kites, crafts, hobbies like photography, boating, painting, singing a song, playing an instrument, playing sports, writing a poem, reading a good book, seeing an awesome movie, talking with long lost friends, meeting new people, sharing your opinions with the editor of a newspaper, traveling the world, getting that dream job, aspiring for more, helping a friend in need, learning to cook, finding a nice hiking trail, participating in contests, etc, etc, etc.

Sure, you could mix alcohol with any and all of these activities, but you may be surprised how much enjoyment there is without the handicap of a beer in one hand.

I get this so much.
by now it is the most irritating thing and the the most ignorant comment i think ever made.
When people say that to me i can't help bu thinking (Drinking won't make me more interesting or more fun it will just make me an idiot for the night.)
But you are right drinking hurts and can lead to some nights where you just say what the hell is wrong with me

i personally like to remember where i am most of the time

I assume it's a common saying among those who are between high school and college age, because I've heard it a few times. If it was said to me, which it probably was once or twice, I get annoyed. I mean come on, that's like saying "I need to get you high" or "I need you to do something completely dangerous that could cause liver damage, cancer, or death because I think it would be funny to see how you act".

And what you say about prefering to remember where you are--I agree as well. Which is why I wrote this stupid little entry...

Yeah, I really don't understand the need to get drunk. I mean, it comes with so many bad consequences, the 'good' things aren't really all that worth it.

I enjoy my day with funny named drinks.... but they are usually coffee, not alcohol, related.

Some people who use alcohol to JUST go to sleep at night I don't see a problem with. I don't do it but if it is something for someone to relax then it is fine. But everything else you mentioned is a waste of time, money, and energy.

I like to be in reality more than being stupid. I can't be around really drunk people when I am not because they annoy me. Good points though in your blog.

I'm fine with people drinking alcohol occassionaly but people who drink everyday; that is just to much. Especially when they are underage. I totally agree with you!

Exactly. Drinking doesn't need to become a hobby. That just becomes a serious problem, which we have a name for: alcoholism.
