Global Warming has been effecting us in many ways. More floods, tsunamis, and hurricanes. So, how can we improve the environment we live in today. Maybe by following some of the suggestions listed below.
1. Compact fluorescent bulbs. According to the Discovery Channel documentary, Global Warming - What You Need to Know with Tom Brokaw, one flourescent bulb replacing one regular light bulb is the equivalent of taking one million cars off the road for an entire year. That is the prevention of a lot of pollution.
2. When replacing home appliances, use energy efficient models. When buying appliances, look for the EPA/Department of Energy’s new Energy Star label.
3. Use cars and light trucks that get good gas mileage. SUVs emit 43% more global-warming pollutants (28 pounds of carbon dioxide per gallon) and 47% more air pollution than the average car. An SUV is 4 times as likely to rollover in an accident.
4. Choose a company that offers for homes electricity generated by renewable energy sources.
5. Help promote community carpooling.
6. Place an insulating cover around water heater.
7. Insulate walls and ceilings. This would also help us lower our heating bills.
8. When replacing windows, choose those that are the best energy saving models, such as double pane windows.
9. Keep the door shut to any room that is not being used, saving the energy to heat that room. (Privacy is a good thing..so please keep doors shut)
10. Take public transit whenever possible.

The Stop Global Warming Virtual March sends out a lot of information on what can be done individually to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and has a good little section of resources.
Thanks. I just joined.

If it only takes changing one light bulb to be their equivalent, then the amount of pollution put out by one million cars must be infinitesimal. Why would we worry about pollution from cars?
I have probably 100 lightbulbs in my house. I seldom turn them all on but if I did and I allowed to burn for a full 24 hours do you really believe that I would create the same amount of pollution as 100 million cars create in a day? My house would be spewing out more pollution than all the cars in Los Angelos, San Francisco, Denver, New York City and most of the other cites in America combined. That is hard to believe.
I have a little 7500 watt backup generator that I keep for emergencies. It would light 100 60 watt bulbs with a little power to spare. It has an engine only slightly larger than a lawnmower engine. I have a hard time understanding how it would put out as much pollution as 100 million cars. I suppose it would put out more if all those cars were all turned off and parked but I don't really think that is what you had in mind.
