Taxation Innovation

There was a man in Colorado that apparently at one point that went around to all the fast food restaurants and asked fro the extra grease. He would take the grease home and put it through a machine of some sort to turn it into bio diesel. It seems to me that he was doing a good thing by conserving fuel and using a natural source. Apparently Colorado thought that he should be paying taxes. Because he was producing fuel, they considered him a fuel manufacturer; therefore, he should have paid the same taxes as Exxon or other fuel manufacturers. The major issues with this is that one, he produced the fuel himself with waste that was going to be thrown out anyway and two I think he should have received some sort of tax break for coming up with an innovative idea and conserving fuel. The government on the other hand seems to be raking as much money as possible. I’m going to try to be as “un-vicious” as possible but I think that the government is desperate for money to keep the economy going. Oil is a big part of the economy and because of all the issues these days with oil like high demand and the fighting in the middle east, it’s no wonder the government is going after anyone who don’t need to depend on the oil supply. Why can’t we take his example and start to use something like bio diesel? And why is it that we have to be taxed for our ideas for a better future?
