I am the type who hated dodgeball, actually gym class in general. Luckily I am a girl so I wasn't attacked by launching balls in gym class but I can't imagine what it must be like for the weak, nerdy, unathletic kid. This was why dodgeball was supposedly banned from gym class because the stronger kids would pick on the weaker ones.
I was also lucky that my school used those soft foam balls, not something hard like volleyballs. Dodgeball is a good way to teach throwing, catching, and avoiding but it can be a really mean sport. It is the perfect chance for bullies to beat up kids. I know that dodgeball can be a nonrough sport and not everyone picks on the weaker players, but it teaches something about society in general.
Some people who find the need to make themselves feel better choose to make fun of a person who they may admire secretly or have similar issues that deal with themselves.
