Heath Ledger was discovered dead by his housekeeper today in his SoHo apartment, surrounded by pills. He left behind a very young daughter and a few unfinished films.
What I want to know, and what the news reporters on television keep avoiding, is why someone like Heath would do this. If this was Britney Spears or some punk rocker, honestly very few people would be shocked. But an actor with yes, the teenybopper flicks like TTIHAY, but also with poignant, dramatic roles in The Order and Brokeback Mountain. He was supposed to play the Joker. He had a young daughter. He stayed pretty much out of the tabloids. If he had a drug problem, I sure as hell haven't heard about it.
So why does the media trail every time a Hilton sister forgets her panties or every time Britney does something stupid, but not a drug problem with someone as seemingly clean-cut as Heath? What is it that decides the tabloid headlines? I mean, I'm all for a little less of all the 'Lohan is in rehab AGAIN' kind of stuff but if a little public awareness would have made him attempt to clean up, could it have saved him?
The media has been blamed for celebrity deaths in the past (a la Princess Di) but others have cleaned up after negative publicity. Where is the line drawn? What makes the difference?

Nasty memories of a breakup, perhaps? You don't have to have a drug problem to decide to commit suicide, if that's indeed what it was.

For the record he finished his role as the Joker. The Dark Knight is done shooting and has moved to the next stages of editing/production/advertisement.
And just a guess but right before the credits role we will see "Dedicated to Heath."
Also this is apparently, complete speculation, one of those "worst kept secrets in hollywood" type things( his druge use)...as in, everybody knew it but nobody said anything out of respect. Nobody cares about disrespecting Paris or Britney, but they stayed away from Heath, or so the little birdie says.
"They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot-smoking makes you unmotivated. Lie! When you're high, you can do everything you normally do, just as well. You just realize that it's not worth the fucking effort. There is a difference." Bill Hicks
This month, Ledger had been working on his latest movie, "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," directed by Terry Gilliam, which was due to be released next year.
Never heard of it, personally, but I'm not big on keeping up with movies.

Ah, I wasn't sure if filming had wrapped on Joker yet. Thanks for clearing that up!
Hug a musician, they never get to dance.
I just saw that on the news. So depressing. I turn 24 and my future baby machine (or so I tease hubby all the time) dies.
:(
I think part of the problem with drug use (if he was indeed addicted) and Hollywood is that it's acceptable practice. When someone dies because of it, they speak out against it and how it's so terrible, but then they go home and shoot up, snort, smoke or whatever. They need to take a more proactive and continual role in speaking out. If we can fire sports people for drug abuse, we should be able to fire and put away actors and musicians for the same thing.

It was incredibly devastating.
Heath was pretty much the bane of my existence.
But while the tabloids at the local Winn-Dixie may not carry tales of Heath Ledger, PerezHilton.com may have.
If I was a celeb, and I saw what Perez had to say about me... well, I probably wouldn't be the happiest camper.
Perez is a bit.... well... malicious.
I adore Perez. After Rock of Love II, Perez's TV show is the best crap on VH1. Flavor of Love III was too skanky for me...And that's saying something.

Oh I love Perez too....
But if I was any celeb other than Anne Hatheway, who he worships, I probably wouldn't love him since he rips them all to pieces.

Why?
Because we won't have a clue what you're talking about.

I read a magazine article that hinted that he got too caught up in his Joker character, and that's why he overdosed, but I dont know if I buy it.
