One of the things that drives me crazy, is the fact that there are really stupid smart people. I found out that one of my cousines got pregnant at the age of 19.
She is the smartest student in the whole family!!! Coming second to me :P. The only thing that angers me so much about this, is the fact that she got pregnant her first time, with an operator wich in Mexico only gets 50 dollars a week working 12 hour shifts. That is an extremely low amount ANYWHERE.
Im not saying that she should get an abortion, but the only thing is that how can she be so smart and dumb enough to not wear a condom? She even told her mother, and I quote, "All the other girls do it, and they don't come out pregnant." It is not only her fault, how did he not think of this.
Was she just being dumb, or playing dumb? I'm 20 and extremely sexually active, but I know better. I always carry a condom, and if I don't have one, then too bad nothing happens, or I buy one. In my opinion, I think she should give the child for adoption and finish her career.

My sister got pregnant with her first child at 18 years of age. He will be three in July. Not long after she had him, she got pregnant again, even though they did use a condom. The boys are 9 and a half months apart. The youngest was born at 27 weeks gestation and has multiple medical problems both from being premature and from neural tube defects (spina bifida). She's a full time college student, operates a highly popular website on preemie and special needs children, does the entire EBay business thing and sews/crochets things for the NICU at the Children's Hospital in her spare time. The boys do not lack for anything. They have everything they need (a loving mother, an awesome extended family, friends, shelter, food, etc, etc, etc) and constantly get, from her, new toys, clothes, books, etc and all the other material junk we always adored having as kids. She does this as a single parent.
My point? Having a child at 18 or 19 years of age isn't the end of the world. It's not easy, but if someone is determined, that individual can accomplish anything, be it combining a career with child rearing, an education and child rearing or a combination of both. If she really wants to do it, she can. There are such a thing as good young parents.

The thing is that my uncle has worked extremely hard just to give my two cousines all that they can have. To tell the truth I don't think it is fair that he is now going to have to work for another child. I believe he has done his job as a father in providing for both of my cousines. I do know for a fact, that she has neither the determination, nor the character to deal with a child. Wich is the point that I failed to mention. Sorry

Ah, well then that is something totally different. If she's not going to be the one providing for the child and raising the child, she shouldn't be having (or keeping as the case is) the child. It's not the responsibility of her parents to bail her out when she makes mistakes... she's an adult and needs to act like it.

Well first of all, I could say something really mean about your spelling but I won't... because I'm not mean. Second, I feel bad for this girl and you should try and put yourself in her shoes. Who are you to say she is stupid for becoming pregnant ? Why do you think it's WRONG for a teenager to be pregnant ? Is that even your opinion or is that what you where told by society to think. She isn't twelve. Her body accepted the baby juice.

No see it is my opinion. I don't think its fair for my unlce; after having to provide for his family for pretty much the majority of his life (not to mention at a young age as well), and for him to keep providing to another mouth that is not his "entire" responsibility. If she was smart enough to have sex and get pregnant, then I believe she should be responsible to live on her own with the father and the child. The baby was finally born a couple of months ago with no problems, and of course she paid nothing for the operation or the costs of the hospital because Daddy was there to pay for it all. The worst part of it all is that I heard my uncle say, "You know what, I don't even know why I'm working as a trucker.... I don't even like it" He said that after doing this job for who know how many years! He's grown weary of his job, all he wants to do is rest, and now from what it shows that won't happen for another 15-20 years! I really don't think thats fair for him at all.

She may be supported by him for now and that is between them but she just gave birth to a human being, eventually she will have to take responsibility for it, karmas a mother
Though she will be the one to support the child later on, she should be the one to support him now. I find no reason why it should be my uncle the one to support the baby.. Buying him all the diapers, taking care of the food and housing.... I don't think that is fair whatsoever for him to put much more effort when she is the one, like you stated;

If that is that case I believe she should be the one to take care of the child in all of his needs, not her father. Like I have stated many times, if she is smart enough to have sex then she should be smart enough to take care of the child.

If you where in the same situation I would hope that you would have someone to take care of you to. It's just one of those things where it is up to them. You can make it known that YOU won't be responsible at all for watching the kid at any time, which I understand, thats not everyones thing. But as for getting on your uncle for caring for the girl when finds herself in an unintended pregnancy thats not right, and making it known that your mad at you uncle would be even worse. Life is too short to worry about what when other people feel it is right to help out. Just chill about it, and be thankful YOU'RE not the one who's going to be blowing chunks and strapped to another life for nine months. Life will be easier.

Now, I think there's a little bit of confusion going on; Child of Light and Dark is not some judgemental headcase that goes around calling pregnant teenagers stupid. (I'm speaking both in my experience with him as a faculty member, and the fact that I know him personally). I've known him to be very compassionate for others' situations.
I think what's happening here, too, is that Child of Light and Dark's use of the word "stupid" isn't conveying his exact feelings. After reading through everything, my feeling is that the word he's meaning to use "mature" - she's mature enough to have sex, she was mature enough to make this decision based on what every one was doing without thinking that her circumstances might be different, and now she is being immature in that rather than finding a situation or continuing her schooling so she can care for this baby, she is relying on her father to do it all for her.
Also, he never stated that he was angry at his uncle.
