At some time or another, we have all realized that we are unaware of other cultures’ beliefs, traditions, or struggles. We all face barriers when interacting with people who we think are different than us. We may be less tolerant of people we perceive to be different. We could even be scared of others or become afraid of interacting with them because of stereotypes. I believe that if people are aware of others’ cultures, they can become more tolerant of others in everyday life. Intolerance is a great fuel for hate, so any efforts to reduce or eliminate it are well worth the time.
One of the things I find interesting about progress is that many people forget that progress must eventually stop- not because people fail to change, but because eventually a final result is achieved. To me, the end result of complete progress would be world peace. I do not expect everyone in the world to agree about everything, but I like to think that eventually we can discuss our differences in opinion without yelling, insulting others, or resulting to violence. I don’t know if this could ever happen or not, but I like to think that it could. If we all worked together to eliminate stereotypes, promote acceptance of others, and help others to see that we are all humans with the same basic wants and needs, we could achieve world peace.
The only way we can achieve this final result is by educating others. We must show people that we are all alike. In order for peace to be possible, all parties involved must agree that peace is a better option than war. Teaching others about history and providing them with a wide survey of other cultures’ struggles and conflicts can help us to see that every culture in the world has experienced hardships as a result of intolerance. By disproving stereotypes, we can show others that there is no need to be afraid or hateful towards others.
I can’t teach you about every culture in the world, but I can share my own with you. Be on the lookout for my next blog, which will feature a look into Native American history. As always, please rate me if you enjoyed this reading. I’ll do the same for you- seriously. I visit all of my commenters blogs and rate back.
