Okay, so, if your kid is over weight and is going to school.... you might possibly get a letter home stating that they are over weight and you need to change their diet. To my recolection this is for the no child left behind act. If I am wrong, please, some one correct me. But anyways you get that letter, but yet you get to thinking about," well what are they doing in school to prevent this issue?" Well where I live they are not doing anything about the situation. My neices and nephews are in grade school and only have gym class 2 days a week!!!! Out of that 2 days a week their gym class is only 30 minutes long!!!! Now how crazy is that??? It makes me sooo angry. Kids should have gym class every day for at least 45 minutes a day. I am not saying we should blame the schools totally , but they need to step it up too, not just put it on the parents. Another thing is the kids only have 15 minutes of recess and that's only if it's not to cold or raining. I just think it needs to be like it use to. I remember I had gym class everyday for 45 minutes when I was in grade school, so I think kids now days should also have it the same. It's not fair to our kids...like they want to be over weight??? Yeah right.

Connecticut has an anti-obesity act which limits the types of foods being sold in cafeterias.

Yeah I think they did that at the high schools here too, but elementary and middle school never had snack machines. Thanks for the reply.
Again, can you please adequately research the topic you're blogging about? It should be incumbent upon YOU, not the reader, to provide facts such as whether NCLB has a provision for informing the parents of overweight children.
But I agree that students should have phys ed in school-- and not just for exercising, but educating kids about which foods are healthy and why.
