Did you know the average age that kids have sex is 12? No wonder why there are so many issues involving aids and hiv. Where does it all stem from? Well, I also recently heard that when parents neglect their children, they look for love in other places. Divorces also contribute because there's usually only one parent present in all stages of the children's life. You'd think with these statistics people would try to do something about it, but they don't, and that's why it keeps getting worse. Generally when you see a cutter or like previously assessed, early risers, you trace their family tree and realize that something tragic happened in their family. Whether the parents were bad parents, or a traumatic death occured, it's not very often that people end up strange on their own. Take a look at the facts, and the big picture and tell me that this isn't a problem. You can't. It's that simple. So maybe we should start with increasing awareness like with all these other issues. Do you agree? Do you disagree? Why? Tomorrow is not going to get any better if we keep leaving our children with these problems. Someone else will take care of it, right? Wrong.

Parental neglect is one of the most tragic things that can happen a child. I believe that with a closer relationship parents can keep their kids safe and in a much friendlier way. Kids that feel alienated are likely to stay away from home and try to stay out as late as possible becuase they have no incentive in goinjg home.
O geez, Iv been hearing the same news also. Idk about you, but If its true...its sick. Kids that age do not even know what they are getting themseves into. When I was 12, I was not even thinking about sex. geez our world has gone down hill.
Where did you hear this? That number seems extremely low to me, and I'm wondering if its meant 12 world-wide, 12 in the US, 12 in a specific state or city....

Alright, well, not to be the bearer of bad news, but most kids are NOT having sex at 12 years old. I would like to see where you have gotten your data because I just recently read a report that states this:
Ages: Percent Male Percent female
15 27% 22%
16 45% 38%
17 59% 51%
18 68% 65%
19 85% 76%
These are the percentages of youth who say they have had sexual intercourse at the various ages. (Santrock, 2008, p.203)
It also states that sexual intercourse is uncommon in early adolescence but becomes more common in the high school and college years, and actually researchers are finding that adolescents are waiting until they are older to have sexual intercourse.
Now, I do agree with you that it is a problem, and I believe that parenting and the media have a lot to do with it. We are told one thing by our parents (don't have sex: for the most part), but then that rule is not really enforced. And the media is all about sex...so mixed messages for us. yay!
We should do something about our kids because they ARE our future...think about OUR generation. I think it's going down hill, but perhaps we will prove ourselves wrong..Hopefully we raise kids that will prove us wrong too.

Idk about those stats. even if it is anonymous, most kids are not gonna admit to what theyve been doing in bed.
Most stats are around that same number. And if they would really want to skew the stats they would probably go in the other direction (meaning they would lie that they had sex earlier than they actually did). Those stats is in an adolescent developing psychology textbook. It's pretty legit when you compare what they say to what's out there. :)
There is always going to be concern about the true statistics, but they are there for a reason.

There is a stat on masturbation. Most boys have ejaculation for the first time at about 12 to 13 years of age. It is the most frequent sexual outlet for many adolescents. Maybe you read that statistic by accident?
Also, the sex varies widely cross culturally in terms of age, but taking all cultures into account (the ones that wait even longer) I still doubt the AVERAGE is 12.

That stat (hopefully) very well may be inaccurate because I heard it secondhand. But even in that case I was slightly horrified because I didn't even get the sex talk until I was 12. Our generation definately is going downhill though.
