Am I a women of color???Not sure...

I have heard many terms. But not the term of "color". I was looking through scholarships, and I have to be of color to enter. So I ask, umm..what color? I looked it up on another site and they said ""Person of color" or "people of color" are synonyms for people who are not white" So does that imply everyone else? Or just of african american decent? I am from hispanic decent, whiter than most people, so I don't realy get it. Am I of color or not? Why don't they just name a heritage? The flyer for the scholarship just says:

"Only LA based Women under 35, will be selected..."Venice-based SPARC gallery is currently seeking submissions from young women of color for a summer 2006 exhibit that explore the concept of homeland in the 21st century"

Normally "man/woman/person of color" usually refers to African Americans, though it is a really confusing statement as you pointed out, seeing as...aren't most people a certain color anyway?

Yes. I mean even white people are not white but pink-ish. So I think the term "color" sounds racist to all other non-whites, like asians, african americans and mexicans

"Of color" does not pertain to the actual color or pigmented skin you have. If you are of any race but Caucasian-hispanic, blacks, native american, etc. you are included (otherwise known as minorities). I think the reason people often think "of color" is relating to black people is because years ago when everyone was very open with their racist comments, one of the terms used to describe black people was "colored people."
