Plagarism

Tagged:

How often does America plagarize and not even know it? We write quotes or say quotes in our everyday life that we didn't invent. We try to give them our own spin off to make them sound our own. Well it still isn't and never will be. That is plagarizing. If you are plagarizing you mind as well say you are stealing the work. Would you appreciate it if someone used a paper you worked long and hard on for school? That person ended up claiming it as their own work and got a good grade. Don't you deserve the good grade? I mean it was YOUR paper first. Many people do not realize that the smallest things are considered plagarizing and it is wrong. I feel for all of the hard workers who do their best to create a masterpiece.

I will be honest I have been warned several times about plagarism. We all do it and we don't even realize it. The smallest saying is plagarism. So in reference to this whole blog I just wanted to keep every aware of the issue. So next time you go to say something or write something that is not yours cite the inventor or where you got it from and everything will work out fine.

Someone could go crazy here, posting a comment where every word is cited for it's nation of birth and whom may have first penned it, but that would be a little over the top.

There are certain things that aren't plagiarism, like sayings and slang that are so prevalent in speech to be a part of American language. But I don't have to cite Webster's dictionary every time I say "Turn that frown upside down!" or "OK" just because I didn't invent them.

I'm not trying to be a jerk. Just showing the extremes here.

I was thinking the same thing when I first read this. The citing rules mention something about common knowledge. Anything that is common knowledge to the audience doesn't have to be cited. SOme of you would need to cite info about cell culture procedures if you referred to it, but I wouldn't have to cite them in a presentation to a scietific committee because they are commonly used and understood. The rules are vague. I was always told to cite anytime there's ambiguity there.
