What happens in China should stay in China

I get that making things in China is cheap but prices are still going up because of gas so how much are we really saving? Especially since China keeps finding new ways to poison us.

According to CNN and MSNBC websites, FDA found a contaminant in heparin, a blood thinner which has been linked to several deaths. The FDA has been finding links of this heparin to a shipment from China.

The Chinese officials claim they are doubtful a contaminant in heparin was responsible for the bad reactions, according to The Associated Press. They suggest the contamination might have occurred in the United States during the manufacturing process or patients may have had conditions that caused the symptoms. My thought though is what new process did the US throw in that might have poisoned people that they are failing to mention? Also the United States are not the only countries that had these problems. Contaminated heparin has been discovered in China, Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Germany and the United States.

Although I’m not saying that the FDA comes out all shining in these articles. My favorite part is from the CNN article.

“Because no method existed to test for the contaminant, the FDA last month developed one, and regulators are now confident current U.S. supplies of the drug are safe, Woodcock said.”

My first question is if there was no method for testing for the contaminant how did they know it was there? Also the fact that they just come up with this testing method doesn’t mean that it is a tried and true method does it?

Either way I think this shows that the US should really slow down on it’s transactions with China.

Americans are dependent on China. To reduce transactions with China the way you suggested, would have huge consequences.

Walmart, and all its shoppers, would be in big trouble, as one example.
McDonalds would have to scrap its happy meal, which I have dubbed "sad meal," but that's another story...

The list goes on and on. SO MUCH of what we buy in America is made in China. It would be no simple task to quit transactions with Chinese companies. Prices would majorly increase, for one thing.

I'm a huge supporter of bringing jobs back to America and reducing out-sourcing. However, I understand that it's much more complex than just "doing it."
