Seventeen Magazine=Hypocracy

Seventeen magazine has based its integrity on the fact that they speak for women of all shapes and sizes. I am here to say that they do not.

It wasn't until recently that this was brought to my attention. I have always liked seeing the girls who are a little bigger (my size) modeling clothes that i think i could wear. I have also always liked their little tips on how to lose weight and get slim for bikini season etc. But, the other day I was reading through their letters to the editor and found and interesting complaint.

One girl complained that they never have articals on how to gain weight in a healthy way. There are girls out there that are too thin and are tired of being called anerexic and bolemic. I assumed that in their next issue they would fix this, But they didn't.

It was then that I realized that this magazine is no different from any other magazine trying to pressure girls into being thinner.

Am I alone in my feelings? Or does someone stand with me?

although i do not read girl magazines.... im sure you are correct in your assumption about this particular magazine. none of their writers want to be the writer that writes an article about how to gain weight, because that would go against the image of the average teen girl they are trying to portray. also it would probably just say eat more food, and then check back next issue to see how to lose it all again.

Most people are not looking to gain weight. If the writers wrote about gaining weight instead of losing it, they'd sell a hell of a lot less magazines.

I'm on that "I need to gain a little weight" side of the spectrum, but I'm not an idiot. I know if I need health advice, Seventeen is not the place I'm going to look.

They're just trying to keep their business alive. Duh.
