Stop Judging Others; Examine Yourself!

I have been reading so many posts about Christians judging other people and this is wrong! I am a Christian myself and I believe that it is not my right to judge others; in fact the Bible says it is not right to judge others. "Do not judge others or else you will be judged and with the measure you judge, the same will be measured to you." Isn't that interesting that many of those who don't even believe in God have this biblical instruction down better than many of those who do? The Bible also says that it is not our place to judge others; only God has the right to do this.

Instead of looking down on the faults of others, true believers in Christ should be examaning their own lives and considering ways in which they can love and encourage others towards Christ (and this does not mean force-feeding religion down people's throats!) After all, it is not up to Christians to draw people into a relationship with Christ; only the Holy Spirit alone is able to do that! The Bible says, "It is by grace that you have been saved through faith and this is not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Ephisians 2:8-9) When believers boast, they should only boast in the Savior!

Does this mean that Christians should become tolerant of all types of sin? No, of course not! But it does mean that we forgive the faults of others, recognizing that we have many faults ourselves. Does this mean that we should stop sharing the amazing love of Christ with others? No, of course not! The Bible commands us to "go into all the world and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ." It does not mean however, that we rely on our own power to save others. We simply show others the love of Christ by telling others of God's love, and we do NOT judge others! Rather, we examine ourselves and become examples of God's love for others to see!

I wish someone could preach this blog to the people who won't let me cross a street because they were too busy judging me.

I wish more people understood that it is not our place to judge others. But in a sense, everyone is judgmental in one way or another. I think it is part of our sinful human nature to consider ourselves better than others. The Bible tells us to do the opposite of this; it tells us to consider others better than ourselves. If everyone truly understood this, we would live in a much kinder world. Hang in there and don't be discouraged!

I agree. As soon as someone finds out I'm not Christian I'm bombarded with questions about why I don't steal, if I have sex with everyone I see, and how I teach my kids to behave if they're not afraid of hell.

I just recently had a conversation with two people who I'm starting to get to know and really like. They are both Christian and I love talking to them about my misconceptions of Christians. I've come to find that I've always seen bad examples of how Christians are. I've seen many people that are hypocritical or even in completely denial about their faith.

One of the girls explained to me that as a Christian you have to recognize your own faults and recognize that you are not perfect and that you sin. She told me that you have to better yourself but you cannot make others do the same. She also said that it bothers to hear people judge others who aren't Christian and for them to say that they are better than others because of their religion.

These are the types of people that make me want to explore the religion furthers. I still have some things that I don't believe I can ever agree with about the religion but I've come to find it comforting to be around people who accept me for all my faults and don't judge me. In this aspect I believe we could all take a page out of their book.

This post reminded me a lot of what we talked about.

I am so glad to hear that you are encouraged by Christians who are not judgemental. We as Christians are certainly far from perfect, but God's love is more than enough to cover over every sin! Thanks for encouraging me to love others because Christ first loved us! Hang in there. Keep seeking Him!

Exactly. Sometimes when I tell people that I am Christian I can tell they are turned off strictly because they expect me to immediately start judging them and preaching to them about what I believe. I would never do that. I accept people for who they are and if they want to become Christian they will, but only because they felt in their heart and not because I jammed it down their throats. Judging is so wrong and I hate that it is an actual real part of our society these days. I even do it without thinking about it, it's a horrible thing and I would love to stop doing it.
