I live in Los Angeles and I'm not saying that the city is bad or anything. There are some wonderful areas in Los Angeles where it's safe and nice looking. But there are other areas in Los Angeles that are not so great and safe. And it's like that for any major city in the US.
I went to school up in Davis for four years and moved back down to LA to go to nursing school. Well... it feels like a very different world here. It might be because Davis is a small city and I felt very safe there. There were news about shootings and robbery the Sacramento area, but I feel like it's nothing compared to LA. Is it just me?
When I came back down, all I hear on the news is shootings and murders. I mean, in a week, I hear about people just shooting at random people or that people are killing children. Children! They are suppose to be our future! I don't understand why people do that. How can anyone just shoot an innocent child?
I live in a good part of LA. For the most part, I think it is safe. I don't live in a rich part of town, it's pretty middle-class. Most of the surrounding cities are not too bad. However, this morning, I hear of this stabbing that happened on a college campus near where I live. It happened last night and early in the morning and I'm thinking 'why would anyone do that?' I never attended this college, but most of my friends attend it. It makes me think about their safety.
I mean, Davis is a safe place to live. If I had a choice, I wouldn't want to walk around campus at night alone there either, no matter how safe it may seem. There are some reportings or people being mugged and things like that, but it is not as bad. I have walked on campus at night before and did not have to worry too much. They do provide services for students who are on campus at night, which I think is a wonderful thing.
I don't know. It makes me think about people nowadays. What goes through these people's minds when they are shooting or stabbing people? What makes them do it? Why can't we live in a safe environment? These things were not as often 20 years ago, what made times change to this? What ever happened to children playing out on the street and not having to worry about them being kidnapped?

Big cities allways have a lot of crime and stuff.
"These things were not as often 20 years ago, what made times change to this?"
People like to remember the "good ol' times," which in fact, weren't all that good. I don't think that the 80's had the best crime rates, and anyway, every period has it's own set of problems.
It's all relative, ehh?
It is a scary thought how the world has changed. I come from a small community and we haven't been hit as hard yet but strange things still happen. I am a mother of two beautiful children and pray for there safety everyday. I get discouraged watching the news on TV because it is so depressing. I understand your feeling on this and wish there was a solution. I just try and live by the motto, treat others like you would like to be treated. Smile when you pass a stranger, they just might smile back and makes someone day.
Great Post!
My town has about 200 to 300 people tops and crime on my streets isnt really something i have to worry about, but i should. It can happen anywhere. My little sister is 6 years old and my mother and i both hate to have her go anywhere alone. Kids are being snatched from school, at parks, in stores...everywhere! I hate to think that something would ever happen to her but even in a small community its a thought in the back 0of my mind, i cant imagine living in a large city. I am so thankful that i have grown up in a small community and i know that years from now when i have kids i want to raise them in a small community just like i was raised. B/c its true more and more people are killing and being killed and i think it id important to do everything you can to protect the people you love from dangerous situations.
