A couple of random thoughts that I have been thinking about lately…
I find it weird to think that we’re moving, not the sky. When I look up, it looks like the clouds are moving.
So if you think about it, the sky you see is a certain color, and that part of the sky will always be that color. The sky moves, and we see different parts, which are different colors. I always thought that the sky changed colors. But it doesn’t. We are moving to the different colors.
I find it weird to think that there will never be silence. When I think it’s silent, nothing moving, I can still hear a buzz in my ear. Try it tonight before you go to bed.
I find tourists inspiring. To think that the things that I see everyday have drawn people from a different part of the world to see, and to think that they are seeing things for the first time.
I find it scary that I can do anything that I want to. I COULD jump when I am on a tall balcony. I COULD go rob a store. I can do ANYTHING, and I am just sitting here.
To be continued…

Um, the clouds ARE moving. O.o

um, but it looks like they're moving really fast...but they're NOT!
We are. the earth is moving...duh.
Are you trying to suggest that clouds are stationary and it is the rotation of the earth that causes the apparent movement??
(1) Category 5 hurricane winds begin at 155 mph. The earth rotates at about 1000 mph which is about 6.5 times faster than that. Just think of the damage that would be done if the atmosphere didn't rotate along with the earth.
(2) Here is a model showing the global atmospheric circulation:
Notice that the wind patterns go different directions, but the earth all rotates as a unit and in the same direction. How does this fit with your idea?
(3) Here is a diagram of local wind patterns at the interface of land and sea:
Notice the wind direction at the top of the atmosphere is opposite that in the bottom. How does that fit with you idea?
(4) Sometimes clouds move quickly, sometimes they don't. How does THAT fit with your idea?
(5) If the clouds stayed stationary and the earth beneath them moved then instead of a storm line causing a problem in the mid west one day and the east coast a few days later, the same storm line would have affected a strip of the entire world, coming back to the same place every 24 hours.
(6) Winds are actually caused by pressure differences. If you have an area of high pressure in one place and an area of low pressure in another place then you will get air moving from the area of high pressure towards the areal of low pressure. The coriolis effect of the spinning earth will contribute to some rotation of the air mass.
(7) Oh yeah ... clouds move the way the wind pushes them. That is why they can move in different directions.

DB

...whoa...
...please see comment below.
Clouds move, all the time. O.o The earth does not move fast enough that you can actually notice it via the movements of the CLOUDS. If clouds didn't move, you would never have a sunny day. wtf?
have you ever just laid down on the grass and looked up at the clouds to find different shapes? I find that very relaxing.
YES! I love doing this...a lot more fun with a friend though...
so you can point out your findings!!
