As I scroll down the pages of blogs I see blank ratings and alot of one star ratings yet no comments. Someone is going around and rating various blogs one star and I have seen this on many blogs recently.
I don't know whoever is doing this, is doing this out of spite because they want to win the competition or because they are having a week consisting of bad days. It could also be due to the fact that ratings are dissappearing but I am not sure.
People are either reading blogs and just rating it poorly, or they are just leaving comments and not rating the blog. I have read alot of blogs and normally always give it a rating and try to make sure I leave a comment.
Also the older blogs that are being pushed further to the back of the line are being forgotten. Click on people's usernames and read their blogs find one that interests you leave a comment and a rating, how hard is that? When you get free time like I have stated before in a previous blog, go to "more" under recent blogs and scroll through the blogs. You are not the only one who deserves for your blog to get ratings and comments, but neglect everyone else.
This is not a hard thing to do yet people want to just comment on the recent blogs, and neglect the older blogs. This makes me question and maybe other people, When should I post a blog so people will read it and not neglect it because it could quickly get pushed further down the line?
People deserve for their message to be heard so please rate blogs and read the older ones first then read the more recent ones.

I would also love to suggest a list of blogs that have the most reads as well as the highest rating. You have to have 5 or more ratings before you get on the highest rated list. And because many people don't take the time to rate, there are some great blogs that get pushed down to the bottom of the "Recent blog posts" list. I have one post that was read 350 times but only rated twice. I try to go back and revisit posts that I enjoyed or to find similiar articles so that the great posts of yore don't get completely lost.
At one point in time, we were thinking of adding a "most read" menu block that listed some blogs based on the number of reads they have.
But ultimately, we aren't sure how fair this would be, and the list would stay very static for a long time. For example, I wrote a blog called "A Mother Kills her child in Wal-Mart" nearly two years ago over the Summer (between contests). That blog ended up getting indexed by Google or something, because within hours it had received nearly 4,000 reads and nearly 70 comments.
And similar things have happened to others' blog as well. It would be very hard for a new user to find his or her post get moved onto that list while competing with so many older, well established blogs. And, if the list never changed, then it would get to be very boring.

Google the following, no quotation marks, note the top results:

...is that being indexed by Google? O.o I noticed it last week and thought it was kind of cool.
Yeah... all our blogs are indexed by google.

Want the highest rated list to change? RATE those blogs, then!
Ahhh. That makes sense. But I'd still really like something that might suggest blogs based on the topics of ones I've read or something. I'm sure there are a ton of really great blogs out there that I haven't read because I get tired of clicking through the recent posts list after about 15 pages.
Scroll all the way up and look in the center column. There should be a block reading as 'similar posts'. You can start there.
You can also look at old blogs from people on your buddy list, or pick someone and go through the blogs they've commented on. There's tons of ways to find older blogs.

You can also find blogs of similar topics when you go to Hot Topics-->Active topics. That should give you a list of ProgU topics and blogs that have been given those "tags". Be warned though, there used to be a lot of bloggers who would just give themselves every tag available--no matter what their blog was about--just so they'd get more readers.

But they are to blogs with atrocious grammar, spelling, and punctuation, or to blogs that are incoherent or completely irrelevant to the site. I don't think any of your posts have met those criteria, so i don't THINK I'm the one star bandit. But if you see one star on a really crappy blog, then, yeah, that was probably me. i put up a rubric for how I vote on a comment to ashmoney's post on this topic a couple days ago, if you are curious.

I think DrifterDani is talking more along the lines of blogs being unfairly rated with one star. If the blog deserved it, that's another story.
Sorry, I think I just commented on this blog 3 times. I'll take my leave now...

I replied to your comment on Fanaille's blog, DrifterDani, but I'll repeat what I said there.
I've noticed what you did: a one star rating bandit, as you call it. It certainly seems spiteful, especially when I know I've looking at a good or even great blog that suddenly has an abysmal rating. Sometimes I over rate (like give it a 5 instead of 4) just so the average gets better.

I call it that because like you said good blogs are randomly getting one star ratings, it seems as though some random person is doing this for fun I guess, and I have seen it on over 10 or more blogs. It is getting annoying. Either that or no one will rate it at all, or comment on it. I have also overrated some to make the ratings higher because they are pretty good blogs.

I really do agree with you. Even if I don't win this scholarship, I wish the best to the person that does. I do get tired of people glancing at my blogs or leavinga comment with no rating or don't tell me what I need to improve on. I really do appreciate when you do read one of my blogs and leave a rating to. Don't worrry . Every blog that I have read of yours I have left a comment and rating.
Thank you for that. :)
If you want constructive critisizm, say so in your tags. I usually want it no matter what the entry is, but usually forget to add that tag so people know (but then again, who reads tags anymore?)
