Civil War In Northern Uganda

A war that has been raging on for over 20 years still continues. In Northern Uganda the people there have not been able to experience peace, people live in fear of being abducted, and they must live in overly crowded and unsanitary displacement camps to escape the possibilities of being abducted by the Lord's Resistance Army. They believed that they were close to peace because on May 10th it was to be the end of the 22 year war. This didn't happen and the war continues to go on. Since the expiration of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CHA) there have been some 300 people abducted. The fears of being abducted were dwindling when the peace talks were progressing but now that the CHA as expired that fear of being abducted is now increasing and it is discouraging the Ugandan people making them believe that peace may never come. It seems that the leader of the Lord's Resistance Army (Joseph Kony) is intent on keeping this war going and avoiding signing the final peace agreement which was originally supposed to be signed on April 10th, 2008.

Thank you for blogging about Northern Uganda! This is an issue I am also very passionate about and like to cover. Invisible Children is such an amazing organization and has done so much to help the people of Uganda. Have you seen the movie?

I'm still hanging on to hope for peace. Keep it up!
