Walmart Medical

Walmart is now officially openning a clinic. That's right. Now you won't just be able to by food, clothes, and have your film developed at our friendly, neighborhood, convienient store, you will now be able to check to see if your kid has the measles. Who's excited? but amazingly Walmart is not the first, or the only store chain that will be teaming up with medical Professionals. Through out the past couple of years, several supermarkets and drugstores have started openning in store clinics. Other stores catching up on the new trend are CVS Caremart, Target, and Walgreens. Researchers think that there are probably going to be more than 1500 by the end of next year. Now don't get carried away. I don't want you to think that these clinics are going to be too fancy. You won't be able to be checked for cancer or anything, but you'll be able to get a quick routine analysis of colds, sunburns, and bladder infections, among other things. Pretty Crazy. Officially Walmart has already openned about 77 in store clinics as of last month. So here's my question? Would you be comfortable going to a clinic in Walmart? I don't know if I would. I think I'd feel a little weird getting my urine tested for infection in the same place that I buy groceries and buy flip-flops. What about you? Would you be okay just getting a random check up as you wait for your film to be developed. I think it's crazy. Walmart has everything. I don't know what to think. I probably feel the same way people did when Walmart added the photography studio and Auto Shop.

I don't know if I would be able to do that . . . I'm a big WalMart fan, but I think that's just a little too much. If the clinics weren't actually connected to the store but ran by the same people, I would consider it.

RIP STEPH

I would never be able to go to any sort of healthcare facility in a Wal-Mart. I'm really against conglomeration like that, and I prefer to value the individual over the corporate entity. Not only do I enjoy the more personal relationship of having a long-time doctor, but I also feel more confident in the abilities of something that can divert all of its attention to my medical care. Wal-Mart already has a lot going on, and I don't really trust their multi-tasking. I mean, within a few months of opening, every Wal-Mart is already overcrowded and undermaintained. I don't even trust their regular products, and I definitely will not utilize this new addition to the already tottering tower that is the Wal-Mart Company. This is a really interesting topic though. Might be a good idea under certain circumstances.
P.S. I agree with the above comment on maybe having an independent healthcare provider located in the store...... maybe.

For the record, you don't see a doctor in these clinics. You see a PA or an NP. Which isn't much different from what I see, but all the same...
