Why would I associate "Personal freedom" and "Better future" under a blog title of "Corporate American and Burnt Popcorn"? Oh that's so easy - read on...
This morning in the cafeteria that smell was there - that smell that's been gone which made me think that we'd finally gotten in right in Corporate America, that we knew to stay the course and not leave prematurely - but sadly I was wrong, the burnt popcorn is back.
I don't understand the whole difficulty surrounding popping popcorn. I've worked other jobs where the employees didn't have as many titles and degrees as we do here, but could pop a perfect bag - but there is some kind of shroud in the Corporate world that prevents us from popping non-charred popcorn. Perhaps we're so used to multitasking that we think it's ok to leave the bag while it does it's chemical process. But that's not the case, as evidenced by today's mishap. And this morning no less! I get to work at 930a - who makes popcorn that early! They probably hadn't had their 5 cups of watered down machine coffee yet!
This is honestly, truly a phenomenon so bizarre that I've had to consult other friends in other locations of Corporate America to see if it happened to them as well - AND IT DID!
If anyone else is out there in CorporateLand and can explain this phenomenon to me, I'd really appreciate it. And to all those out there who haven't yet entered this world of cubes, office ettiquette, all hands meetings and dress down Fridays (which DOES NOT include flip flops in the summer or otherwise), just wait - I was once a rebel who refused to work for The Man, but even this hippie-hearted crunchy granola girl had to submit.
So - in conclusion, in order not to step on anyone's personal freedom, and to guide us to a better future, stay with your popcorn if you pop it - they order cheap microwaves in Corporate American (can't mess with the bottom dollar you know!) and they don't usually have the nice button for popcorn on it which makes it so nice and mindless. OR - just consider this to be a friendly heads up because no doubt, it will happen to all those who enter CorporateLand...
