So, here I am at the University of Minnesota. All you liberals and registered Democrats--don't hate me--but I AM a registered Republican and pretty much a conservative.
Here's the deal. I'm republican minded on social issues. I don't know much about economic issues--basically because it bores the heck out of me. But, after taking a few political tests and quizzes of that nature, I guess I am a bit of a libertarian. So, here is my question to all you just legalized kids: Whats with the hatred of the right-wingers? Is it because your parents were all staunch Republicans and it is a rebellion against them?
Are you REALLY all pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage? Do you have reasoning behind it?
Do you have a reason to not vote Republican in the 2008 race? Or is it just because you hate George Bush?
I personally thing it is kind of funny how George Bush is constantly under pressure by the media concerning the war in Iraq and other things like Katrina and all this and that--basically anything you can think of to tattle on Bush for--ya do. Its like if he takes too big of a breath the tree huggers and such are going to freak out because he's taking in too much oxygen and killing the world. Seriously, where do you come up with this stuff?
A.) I am pretty sure that the congress had to vote for the war in Iraq, which by the way, most of them did before we could go over there. Hillary voted for it, and if Obama were in the senate at the time, I'm sure he would have probably approved. Most people DID approve. So, why did Bush get all the crap for it? We can't make a democracy over night. We have been working on our democracy since the days of our founding fathers. Its ALWAYS a work in progress. And with the way Iraq was compared to how it is now, you can't help but notice things ARE progressing--however slowly and grueling it might be.
B.) Katrina wasn't George Bush's fault. Isn't it up to the state to make sure everything is in working order-->bridges, leveys, and systems to prevent the believed impossible? I blame the aftermath of Katrina on the state of Louisiana AND the people who DIDNT leave. There was plenty of warning! The NWS had been warning of the impending catastrophe for days before and the people had ample time to leave. There were buses leaving and friends carpooled out of there. So don't go blaming George Bush on something that was your own fault. He did what he could to get the money needed to LA.
Look guys, Im not like sanctifying George Bush here. I'm pretty sick of him myself and ready for some change. But you can't say you hate George just because and not have any reason behind it. That just makes you as ignorant as the rest of the country. Do you really think someone as inexperienced as Barack Obama could run the United States effectively? Do you REALLY want Hillary Clinton back in the White House with her scoundrel skirt chasing husband?
Where is America headed?
I hope its down a nicely paved road...not a big fan of gravel, bumpy roads...which is what I think will happen if you elect Hillary or Obama.
Okay, well I feel better after getting that off my chest.
I look forward to seeing some intense anti-me responses. But I am willing to take it.
After all...its a blog...an online journal. I can write whatever the heck I want to.

Bush isn't the person I blame for all the problems. I think it's amazing that congress approved this war and when they did, the blame somewhat left Bush's hands. The state of emergency called in Katrina showed us how unable our federal emergency plan is to rescue us from natural or unnatural disasters. I don't personally think people should depend on the government for all their safety and security.
Ben Franklin has a beautiful quote....
"Sell not virtue to purchase wealth, nor Liberty to purchase power."
He is trying to say not to give up your liberty, because nothing is worth more.; not security, influence, or power.
We have given up our liberties, in part to have all these social programs.
Check out Ron Paul.
The Libertarian in you will have found a candidate worth fighting for.
Also, economics is what defines American politics. Nothing is an important as economics in understanding politics. If you're interested, I'll try and dig up some sites that explain American economics in layman's terms

Ron Paul actually came to my university and I sat in the fourth row and listened to him.
I liked a lot of his stuff!
I wish he had more support, though.
Well, pro-choice is not the same thing as pro-abortion. I think abortion is a horrible thing, but I can't say with 100% certainty that I wouldn't want to save my life over a child, when I could potentially have another. I'm against legislating against abortion (period... don't promote it, don't outlaw it), because I don't think the federal (or state, or city) government should be able to tell me what I can and cannot do if I get pregnant. Especially if no one except me KNOWS I'm pregnant.
And pro-gay marriage? Yeah... duh. Why are you against letting gay men and women have the same rights as you, to marry who they want to, without regard to gender? Why should the government give tax breaks, inheritance benefits, etc automatically to two people registered as married, but not to two people who love each other but aren't allowed to get married, and have to go through all these steps in order to get a portion of the benefits I would if I married my boyfriend.
Good enough reasons for you?
I don't vote based on the party. I vote based on who I think is the better candidate. Ron Paul seems the best to me right now, but as it looks like he's not going to win the party ticket, and won't run as a third party, I'll unlikely get the choice to vote for him.
I think most people see it as more the problem with the government waiting for days when they knew of the conditions to get help out there. It's not that Katrina was Bush's fault, it's that there were so many homeless and generally crappy conditions down there, and the feds didn't do a thing about it until there was an uproar in the rest of the states about the conditions down there.

Check out the latest entry in the Between The Lines column!
YES YES YES!!! someone who thinks the same way i do!!!!
I voted for bush last election, and i'd vote for him again.
Sorry guys, but i like him.
Sadly alot of kids in this town are very uneducated, and only go by what their uneducated parents tell them. I for one, am independant, I like how the republicians go for pro-life, but i am for gay marriage. IN other words, i am on the fence.
