March Madness..What's the hype all about?

Let's get ready to rumble! It's March Madness time which means, you guessed it - Basketball! Basketball is not only a sport filled with excitement, slam dunks, and unbelievable athletes; it also is full of mathematical concepts. But really, are people more interested in watching the games or getting their brackets in for a chance to get some major cash???

March Madness is a phenomenon that grips the national sports psyche from the first week of March through the first week of April. March Madness is the name that is given to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). These tournaments determine the national champions of college basketball. The NCAA tournaments are an American tradition that sends millions of fans into a synchronized frenzy each year. It is this chaos that gives the tournament its March Madness nickname. March Madness is the concentrated hype of 65 teams vying for college basketball's biggest prize. It's the last-second, buzzer-beating baskets, the euphoria of winning to play another day, and the agony of losing and going home.

The NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship starts with 64 teams that are eventually narrowed down to the Sweet Sixteen, the Elite Eight, and finally, the 2008 NCAA Men’s Final Four at the Alamodome in San Antonio from April 5 to 7.

Seeing many men get overly excited with their brackets makes me feel this is more of a mix between gambling and basketball. The combination of these two activities makes any mans dream. There is a possibility of earning large amount of cash without having to do much work while watching some of the most talented college basketball teams. The rush of watching these games and rooting for your personal bracket gets people hyped. Mostly I feel people do this as a sort of entertainment.. just for fun. However, I do feel some people go overboard by spending a large sum of cash to buy several brackets to increase their chances of winning. This could hurt them in the end because they loose their sense of responsibility from having all of that hype surrounding them.
