Friday, April 4,2008 was the aniversity of Martin Luther Kings death. I was asked to think how the world would be different if MLK were still alive. In my opinion I think that:
<^>The minority drop out rate would be less.
<^>The notion that being black includes disrespecting one's self and women, wearing
outrageously oversized clothing and then having it sag off of your body ( for guys),
wearing skin tight and scatly clad clothing ( for women), not valuing the pursuit of
education, and having a get rich quick mentality.
<^> B.e.t would not exist in the state it is in now. where african americans are acting
like fools for t.v time. Scatly clad women would not be seen jiggling on t.v, then
glorified for it.
<^> women would not be referred to as B !t^h and/ or hoe
<^> Equal right would be for EVERYONE no matter their race , color, sexuality, ethnicity,
or gender.
<^> Black people wouldn't be made to look like fools on television.
<^> Being a Pimp or a hoe would not be something young people strive for.
<^> People would have more pride for themselves
<^> Unity among all people.

I do believe that MLK still being alive today would affect the way African Americans are viewed, but I think you are giving him a little too much credit. His life was cut short, and there was so much more he could have done, true, but one man can only do so much.
How African Americans are viewed and behave depends on their views of themselves and others' views of them. Everyone would not have conformed to MLK's views, and I believe that many of these same problems would still exist despite his continued life's work.

I wonder about this too, from time to time. It's impossible to say for sure, of course, but I do wonder.
One thing to think about, though, is that BET may have come into being anyway...I mean, look at MTV. White people make asses of themselves all over MTV and VH1, and broadcast television, for that matter. The fifteen minutes of fame, I'm afraid, is a cross-cultural value.

I think you are right.
