I'm proposing this (quote by Henry David Thoreau) in a debate. i believe that the richer you are, the less morals and ethics you'll have. And the more money is involved, greed will overcome (maybe). Like when big companies step on those puny ones as if they're nothing. Just because you have all the money in the world does not mean you're happy. Also, money does soemthing to your personality, and whatever you do (whether with money or not) it isn't selflessness anymore. I know some of my wordings are weird, BUT what do you think about the quote? Let me know!!!
Absolutely speaking, the more money, the less virtue.

Careful. Your are looking at a quote from the age of scarcity. The trouble with learning from history is that it doesn't always apply to the current situation. Perhaps a more apt view is that money is simply energy. Everything in the universe is made of energy and intelligence. You are simply a channel of energy. Money is like a battery. It stores your energy. You can use it, exchange it, pass it on to others as a gift. It should flow, which is why we call it currency. There is nothing evil about money. Having a lot of money enables people to be generous in a multitude of ways, and create things that can benefit many. Look at Bill Gates. He's the richest man in the world, and he is giving most of it for the benefit of others.
in some ways you're right, but in some ways you aren;t...it's all in the perspective. thanks for the input.
I like what is said, and I'm debating the same issue in a class I'm taking. Are there any sites I can refer to for information on this topic? Please help.
I don't see money as much of an object as it is a temporary piece of existance - something that nobody else values but us. People don't stop and think, but - if an alien looked at a pile of money, do you think that alien would be concerned about using a ten or a twenty for toilet paper? I'm so American that my stomach actually jumps hoops when I think about money being used to save your washer/dryer some effort.
In realityland, money is really only good for toilet paper - even then, it's got to fly around your pocket for a few weeks. Seriously - you get a $1 going through the pockets of 12 pairs of pants, and it's like all soft and cool-feeling...
Anyway - I just hope people realized that money is only worth something in a certain context - anywhere else, it's practically useless.
I like my science teacher's opinion on modern society:
"Humans didn't evolve to eat fast food. Our obesity doesn't come from a lack of willpower - it comes from a lack of effort. Humans evolved to be hunters and gatherers - we no longer expend effort to hunt, and gathering is entirely recreational. It used to take a human tribe days to chase and kill an animal big enough to have dinner for a night or two. Now it takes a single human five minutes to get a month's worth of sodium."

If a society is willing to give freedom for temporary security, they deserve neither.
i agree...thanks.
