What role does our government play in the lives of Americans? Well, at least most americans feel that it is the responsability of the government to protect their people, and enforce natural right freedoms. John Locke was a thinker in the Enlightenment age that viewed natural rights as freedoms that people are born with, and freedoms that no one can take away from us, such as what we believe...These are some of the principles that our government started out with.
Also, it is the government's responsibility to keep it's people safe. By creating and enforcing laws against crime, government IS doing it's job. Police are meant to be a domestic enforcer of safety. The military on the other hand is an international and stronger enforcer of safty. These elements in government are vitally important to a society's survival.
I guess the greatest balance in our government that we need to obtain is the equalibrium between the powers of federal government, state government, and individual freedoms. Our nation is a wonderful one because it has the elements of a responsible and desireable government.
Corruption however comes to any and every society. It is my belief that our nation is faceing a very delicate time in history, and in order for it to survive, we must find a way to eliminate corruption in our society. This time in history is a testing period really. It's a time where issues and foreign policies are very gray; and the constitution is vauge on what to do in these circumstances.
We will see where our foundation will take us. We will see just how strong this "experimental" nation really is. I hope it stands strong and proud. My hope is that Americans will always be safe. My hope is that our government will "help us out" and not control us. And I hope that the freedoms that we were born with will stay with us for as long as we live.

Are you aware to say American is to include the entire western hemisphere. There is an entire continent south of us that refer to themselves as American's. I always find that interesting. It took me visiting south of the equator to be made aware of this.
We must be very cautious. The corporations of this county are manipulating laws for their benefit. Public schools will eventually be no more. Hospitals will only be for those that can afford it. The highways of which we travel will be taxed for every use. If the disappearing middle class does not wake up, the fissure will suck democracy, or representative republic right out the window.
What should we call ourselves? :)

I know, that's what I asked.
We could do as they say, "Keep it simple, stupid" with North Americans
or upgrade to Wage Slaves. Any other suggestions?
