I've recently started writing more songs about age. I realized that more and more people in the past decade have resorted to plastic surgery in order to retain their "younger" appearance. Has it occurred to anyone that they look more and more robotic, or plastic, as they strive harder and harder to achieve this "younger" appearance? I would rather attain those "filthy" crows feet and "ugly" laugh lines than look like a plastic recreation of my younger self.
Out of curiosity I wonder why so many people feel so insecure with their older, au naturale selves. Is it because of media today? Obviously everyone, despite even their most fervent attempts at denying being media-influenced, are media influenced. However, celebrities have done it, so woman (mostly, anyway) aspire to be like their most loved actress. Even men, though not as common, are resorting to plastic surgery treatments to restore their "younger" selves.
They even have products for those who can't realistically attain those drastic funds for plastic surgery--like olay regenerist, for example! How wonderful; now even the poor can attain that more youthful appearance, without the cost.
Though, for about an ounce of a solution you pay about 30 dollars. Fantastic.
See, for me, I'd much rather have crows feet and laugh lines and grey hair. Maybe not grey hair. But I'd rather people see my age and see that I was happy in life than see a plastic reconstruction of who I once was.
I thought we took pictures for the sole purpose of showing people what our younger selves were.
But, as our culture and our media have proved to us over and over again, we are surrounded and immersed in fake...everything. Girls are surrounded by the fake midriff, the fake face and fake body to aspire to; anorexia is definately not something to aspire to.
So again, I'd like to reiterate that I'd be more than willing to have laugh lines and crows feet, any day.

Me too!! This world is way to hung up over appearance. It is sad to think that we can't feel comfortbale with each other by just being our natural selves, being the way we were created. People are constantly putting masks on now a days.
sad, isnt it? i'm not a god-fearing woman or religious by any means; or a hippy for that matter, but i do believe fervently in being yourself. wholely and whole-heartedly. sure, i have piercings and people would say that my tattoo was a scar i put on myself to enhance my appearance; but piercings can be taken out and my tattoo is a tribute to my mother, and i plan to get more. tattoos are a completely different subject though; i think putting your own art on your own body is a fantastic idea; i like the idea that im a canvas for someone to "paint" on.
again, completely different subject. but thank you for your thoughts!

...are fantastic. Seriously. I cannot wait to get crow's feet. It'll probably end up being very ironic, and that will be the only type of wrinkle I DON'T get. Haha. I think they look great, and are sexy in a guy. (Not pedofile sexy, but like: actor sexy) My friends think I am crazy, but to me it just makes me feel like the guy is happy, and generally easy-going.
haha well i'm glad someone else feels the same way. I dont even care if i get the frustration wrinkles in my forehead; at least it lets everyone know i was thinking at some point in my life.

Crows feet show age. But its a good thing. They show people have lived through a lot of laughter and sun. I feel like crows feet make people look more wise. Why woould someone want to take them away? Beats me.
