omg txting is CrAzY

I was on foxnews.com today and I ran across an article that I made me laugh out loud. It said that on a street in London they are putting up padding on their lamp posts. Sounds crazy right? The reason that they said they were putting them up is because people are running into them while they're texting or doing things with their phones. They said that an estimate one in ten people have been injured by running into something while texting. That just sounds crazy to me. While I am practically glued to my phone and I text constantly, I think it is a little much to pad street lamps because people aren't paying attention to where they are walking.

I know we live in a time when technology is a part of almost everything we do, but this seems a little over the top to me. My own mother is a texting wizard at 42 years old, so it isn't even just my generation. I think that padded poles seems like a good clue that we may be going a little overboard. I'm not saying that people should stop texting. What I'm saying is that people should use common sense when they do. If you're going to text while you walk down the street, look up every once in a while to make sure you don't run into something. And while I know in many states, including my own, it is illegal to use a cell phone while driving, if you think you are able to handle texting while driving, think again. I once saw an episode of Oprah where a teen who commonly texted while driving was doing so one day and while looking down to type, he hit a biker riding on the side of the road. The biker, a middle-aged husband and father, was killed instantly. You never know when this could happen to you. In my driver's ed class we read a study that experimented with the effects of talking on a cell phone while driving. In this survey they found that while on the phone because of your focused attention on the conversation, you have virtually no peripheral vision. If that is the case with talking on the phone, think about how what the effects of texting while driving could be.

I just want to remind everyone to be smart and be safe when texting.

probably because people are stupid and lazy. ive texted a few times. its not addicting or fun, its stupid. it takes ridiculously long to type anything, especially cause i dont talk like most idiots at my school

lol Liek OmG RLY?

but it is ridiculous. they need to ban talking or texting while on the road.

the padded stuff is funny though.

They definitely need to ban texting and talking on the phone while driving. I live in Illinois and everyone under 19 here is not allowed to use their cell phone while in their vehicle unless they are parked. But this doesn't stop hardly anyone from doing it.

This is a good law. I wish it was for everyone, not just for those under 19.

There was a girl in one of my classes this year who actually used "text language" in her college english paper. The teacher just laughed and told her to get out of the class. Texting is getting a little out of control.

People text all the time in my classes, even though it's against the rules. The other day my Sociology teacher caught one of my classmates texting in her class and she went over, took the phone and read her text messages aloud. It was super funny because the girl was texting about a teacher at our school that had just been fired for having sex with a student. And my teacher was just like "ohhhhh juicy!"

The teachers at both my schools are fed up with cell phones, as am I. At cosmetology school we have girls who will stop in the middle of BLEACHING someone's hair and answer their calls or texts. My math teach finally told our class that if people didn't stop answering their phones and texting people in class he would take 20% off everyone's midterms. Needless to say, everyone stopped.

I don't see what could be so important that it stops someone from doing their job. i never answer my phone unless it's convenient for me. I dont see any benefit in it.
