I am having such a time with the new rules on background checks, and stadards for hiring. I think they are great and nesscsary. However it is becoming a barrier to employment. At least if you don't knwo what you are doing.

My day today.....

1. Go to state police deptment for figerprinting: P.S. The police did not know what to do.  The cop doing it even didn't get my whole finger on the print (do not knwo if this will srew up check)

2. Go to several differnet buildings looking for records office

3. Sercurity Called Records office they said it cost $54.00 to get a federal and state record

4. Called Foster Home to see what was up because she said it was free.  She did not know what to do- so I have to figure it out on my own.

5. Called record office- she came down- and gave me another number to call.

6. Called Community Services- She said they did not handle Foster Homes Regulation - gave me another number

7. GAVE UP- and came home to make dinner because my boyF was going to be home- Got home he was already here- started dinner immediatly.

tOMARROW  I will start at Human services with the number I have now and hopefully I will have better luck.

Oh, the lady at Community Services said that the foster home is supposed to do the background check on me free of charge. That according to law I am not resopsible for the cost of the check. Of course its a small home and she said that she cannot afford to pay for a background check for everybody who applies, but I am broke too thats why I need a job.

But how do you feel about the news laws on background checks and the new new law on finger printing people who get a job? Is it onw step closer to big brother? Or is it making super criminals, because those are the only ones who will survive the changes?

Hmm, this isn't law in the state in which I live or work. However, some employers do background checks, credit histories and also require physical exams all as a requirement of employment. The employer is responsible for all of that, though, from scheduling it to paying for it.

Is there a labor board you can get in touch with to find out who exactly is responsible for the costs and for arrangments?

where did you find this

I think that she should pay. Or you should look for another job. She LIED to you, that's a bad sign.

It hardly seems worth it. If the company I am working for doesn't have the money to hire an HR representative to go dig up all of this stuff, they probably wouldn't be willing to pay me enough, either. It doesn't seem professional at all.
