"I think that by having homosexual parents it, in a way, affirms in your mind that homosexuality is a "right" way to live life. Whether or not it is, is irrelevant (to me)... By having homosexual parents it's affirmed in your mind that homosexuality is okay. Whether or not it's okay to think that it's okay doesn't matter to me (at least not in this comment). However it's going to matter to people who are strongly opposed to homosexuality." (response left by Smackofthegod in my blog on gay parents)
This made me think about something that maybe has been very obvious all along in this whole homosexuality debate, but for some reason I haven't quite had it that way in my mind. See, this comment is making me think about how I think about this whole debate. Basically, I have always thought about this as there is one side that thinks that homosexuality is okay, and they are fighting to make it okay, and there is the other side saying homosexuality is bad and they are fighting to stop homosexuality. But this comment made me realize that the fight isn't really about what people do persay...although that of course is involved....but it's about what people think.
The side against it, is actually against people thinking it's okay. Like Smackofthegod said in the comment, that's why they would say it's bad for gay parents to adopt, not because they are going to spread what they do, but they'll spread what they think. They don't just want to stop people from being homosexual, but also from accepting it..
I guess this is something everybody else probably knew already, but for me, it's kind of revolutionizing the way I was conceptualizing this whole argument. I always looked at this as a fight about actions, but it's a fight about viewpoints, which somehow makes it more repulsive to me. It's a fight for control over what people think...
But then, I suppose that is what every debate is really about, isn't it? It's why we argue about things that don't really affect us personally, it's why we care when we aren't really involved. But is that something that is fair to fight? The way people think? Doesn't that reek of 1984? But then what are we supposed to fight?

The whole "fight" is just agenda vs. agenda. I personally would rather the federal government just stay out of our bedrooms no matter our sexual preferance (within the bounds of the law of course). This is all a matter for local city/town governments and it's citizens to vote on.
What about children who are raised by homosexual parents and later in life adopt ideals and opinions that disagree with the lifestyle, but still love their parents and wouldn't have changed their childhood for the world...just some food for thought
I agree. Was it you that mentioned having gay parents, or was that someone else? Someone here mentioned the fact that she was raised by gay parents and liked it much better than her previous situation.
