Lock-Down? Whatever.

Last Thrusday, my school had a lock-down. I was sitting in French 4 with my friends when the assistant principal came on the PA system and announced an emergency lock-down. Everyone rolled there eyes and Madame started across the hall because she once again forgot her keys and needed Senora to lock her door for her. We put the poster over the door window so no one could see in and shut off the lights. But then we carried on with class. We were suppossed to get in the corner, but no one did. Everyone just cracked jokes about the situation.
I sit right in front of the door and we started hearing stuff in the halls, we asked if it was a drill and Madame said she hadn't gotten an email about it. Someone said it was probably just the dog. Someone else reminded them this was an emergency lock down, not an administrative. When someone yanked on the door, trying to pull it open, my three friends and I were out of our seats and across the room before anyone else even knew what was happening.
We laughed about it later after the drill was over, but still, that half a second, was pretty scary. When I asked my friends in other classes what they had done. They said their classes cracked jokes and continued class much the same as mine had.
That scares me. We have threats at my school on a regular basis. Usually a bomb threat but no one ever takes it seriously. Last year we had three or four and they are always just laughed off. And I'm sure other sure other schools do the same thing.
How is this possible? Why is this happening? Just a couple weeks ago a bunch of kids died in a school shooting. And here we are laughing and joking. How would I react if I was them and heard kids acting like this? But how do you get kids to act differetly. The only way they would is if this happened to them for real. Its too far from home for anyone to be scared. But if we did learn from what happened at other schools...imagine how safe we would be.

no one ever takes this sort of thing seriously. which is probably the reason so many end up dead. in almost all cases the shooters (or what ever) tell someone before they act. the person they told doesnt tell anyone usually. so its not stopped. if we took things seriously and actually acted when told thered be a lot of lives spared.

my school never used to take anything seriously, at least my friends and i never did untilll one day in rotc the school was out on lock down because a riot broke out. the doors in ROTC are bullet proof glass doors, so my class and i got a full blown view of the scene. It was horrific, some of the island boys were pissed because one of their "girlfriends" slept with a "main land kid" the had pulled the chaines off of the doors and one of them had a razor blade, and they wee attacking anyone and everyone who tried to stop them from gewtting to that kid. they eventually took down the vice principal and beat her down, she was taken to the hosp on a gurney with a broken neck, and nose, and blackened eyes. it waspretty gnarly. Something i will never forget.

The past is the past, you can not change it. So don't dwell in your mistakes, Pick up the pieces, and instead learn from your downfall.
