The increase in cost of Gas is for the Best

Everyone feels the pain at the pump, or at least we are now. The entire economy is shifting around as the price of oil continues to claim. In fact I don't remember the last time I watched the morning news and didn't hear, "Today gas reached an all time high of..." Exactly. While I admit that to some this is like a curse, but for the future it's for the best. This economy is spoiled by low prices and frivolous spending. This is the wake-up call the country has needed, the prove is in the change in our lifestyles, while some of us have to give up luxuries it also means we are focusing on what's more important in our lives, like eating cheaper and healthier, or maybe not buying that huge gas eating monster of a hummer or Expedition 10 seater edition.

For some though the light is coming, companies are finally making cars that get better gas mileage, give off less emissions and are overall greener in their material and design. This change will not come fast or with much ease. But for those of us that can opting for a more fuel efficient car and maybe changing our lifestyles a bit will be better for this country in the future and even for the planet.

I myself got really lucky because I choose to get a vehicle that gets better gas mileage when I picked my first car over something that looks really cool and sweet. My age and attitude had a lot to do with my decision. As I was 18 when we got the car I knew that this had to be a good sound purchase, especially because my parents were co-signing, so I wanted something that would benefit me and them. So I got myself a Jetta TDI, with a sorry 100 horses and 5 gears. But like I tell my friends, you might be able to beat me across down or state, but I can make the trip without having to plug my car in to a gas pump.

Though I am sure most of you know that the most expensive fuel right now is Diesel and that is what is effecting the major increase in our produce and food spending. Trucks run on diesel and with ever cent that increases thats significant increase in the cost that driver has to transport those goods. As the price to transport increases so does everything else. So maybe what we really need is some development in the commercial industry?

When's the last time you saw a car show or autoblog post about the all new 2008 fuel efficient 18-wheeler? You just don't see that kind of thing and maybe this current crisis is the type of thing to change that... hopefully.

So yeah that's my rant for the day, I have a going bet that says Diesel hits 6 dollars by the end of summer, its practically at 5 already... I really hope it doesn't.

I heard somewhere it was looking to be around $8/gallon by the end of summer. I think you might win your bet. :-/

I have a VW Golf TDI that I used Biodiesel with for a while...but it gummed up my fuel lines. So, now I'm back to regular diesel for a while. It still gets 40MPG which is better than the Saturn I had before.

Have you heard about the new Jetta TDI? it's supposed to get like 60 mpg? I have been doing some research online, and since they haven't made the Jetta in like 2 years the demand for it is really high. For example, the cost of my car online used is higher than it was when I bought? when does that happen ever? I am really considering selling my care for potentially a profit to get the new 08, only I don't know how much the 08 is going to be :X

@sawaboof: If it hits 8 dollars I am buying a bike haha

You should buy a bike anyway. Bikes make people look cool.

Why you ask to I make such an insane statement? It is what is best for the environment. The higher the gas prices go people will be more willing to develop and use alternate energy resources. They will be more likely to us mass transit, they will be more likely to walk the two blocks to the grocery store, they will be more likely to use energy resources more wisely. As Martha Stewart would say, "It's a good thing."

Alternative Energy development and achieving mainstream success should be our top domestic and foreign policy. Why? Look up the members who make up OPEC. Are they people that we really want to be dependent on for energy.

It is not just a hippie counter culture trendy issue it is sound domestic and foreign policy.
