If you've happened to read blogs on here or watching the news the past year you would have noticed an increase in blogs about racism, including some by me. I tire greatly of hearing these but at other times they make good points or make my blood boil.
Case in point, blogs about racial discrimination against whites. If you buy into the idea that race is a social construct then you have no problem, but if you don't well then you have a problem since the majority of America does not. That's why we see double the amount of scholarships for minority students than for non-minorities. Hispancs I see as not being minorites soon, but black american will I think, always be minorities in America. Anyway, yes and no to those scholarships. I think having race-based scholarships is wrong as well as affirmative action, which is utter bullshit even according to some prominent black leaders.
We can then move on to racial and derogatory slurs. I recently read Freakonomics and nearly died of laughter after reading the section about a survey that a University of Chicago student had to do for a project. He went to the projects to ask what the people felt about being black and poor. Most of the responses were a resounding, "fuck you" , from the gang members that he was "held hostage" by. What struck me as funny is when the gang leader came out and said he wasn't any of those, but a nigger. Racism as I've said before is enormously hypocritical which this shows. If this student (who wasn't black) had said this, I can assume the shit would have been beat out of him. But when the gang leader says it, it's ok. Utterly funny and hypocritical.
Finally we have my own case in point which involved a black-american kid calling me a cracker and me resoundingly calling him a jungle baby. Racist? Not to me. First I am half mexican and half white, so if he is going to use a racial slur then he should have called me a wetback. Second, it was deemed alright for him to say it, but when I yelled out, he said he was going to kick my ass. Unfortunately for him I was running at the time and he was slow in his start up. How come he can use a racial slur against me and it is ok, but when I do it back, I look like a racist? I know the theories and they suck in my opinion. If you're going to insult me, I'll insult you right back. It's a shame that Condelezza Rice and Colin Powell wouldn't say something to the black-americans who call them Uncle Toms.
Racism is never blind to anyone even people of their own race. Racism is hypocritical and stupid, but people shouldn't be afraid to stand up for themselves when they are racials debased. I concede that it probably wasn't smart for me to utter what I uttered but it is in the past and the kid got a taste of his own medicine. So if I may borrow from Mr. Warbucks but expand: Picture yourself as the only one of your race is in the middle of people of a different race and realize how scary the feeling is because you don't understand them. Maybe instead of teaching the test like most schools do, maybe instead of sending students to other countries (we should still do that I think), maybe we should also allow ourselves to assimilate with people of other races and cultures here in America so that we may better appreciate all of our differences and hopefully end racism someday.

I don't think I have ever laughed so hard in my life. You tell him, s_o_d.
Racism will never go away. Some people refuse to accept others who are"different," and this will never change. It's the people on the fence you have to convince.
Lol, I thought that might either get me a laugh or utter contempt from people and I'm glad to see that it got me a laugh.
I know, but it never hurts to keep beating a dead horse because some day science will find a way to make that horse a zombie and then you'll be beating a living dead horse. But hey, until then there are a lot of people on the fence so hopefully I can convert them.
