I have nothing against skinny models, but sometimes I feel that the image of tall, skinny women, who do not even represent a majority of the population, should not be modeling clothes. What happened to the average model? This world has gotten a little bit "bigger" (literally), and some accommodations need to be made. We are no longer a skinny world. In this day and age, where fast food is the accepted, and home cooked meals are rare, maybe the skinny model needs to be retired. I'm just saying. I think, that we need fit, toned, and average sized women to be the new models of this new world. So next time fashion week comes around, maybe too skinny models will not have to be banned from the cat walks.

Did you hear about the models in Spain? They set up guidelines that if you're to skinny you can't walk the runway. I believe that I read that Kate Moss didn't qualify. That's definately a step in the right direction.
I agree with you. Some of the people I know were mad about this and I don't understand why. Some of the girls look almost skeletal! It's not realistic at all. I just don't understand the benefit of using such teeny tiny girls to model clothes--normal people wouldn't fit in the same stuff, and/or the styles would look totally different with bigger people.
Is that we should encourage this epedemic of obesity? People have gotten bigger and I personally think it is essential to fight against this hideous weight gain that has consumed our country. Not that I don't agree that models who starve themselves are not good role models, but at the same time I in not way support making "fat" an ok way to be. It's unhealthy and will inevitably lead to these people's deaths. Healthy is good, but overweight is bad.
Yeah. I don't like it when people encourage obesity by saying, "They're not fat. People just come in different sizes and they're beautiful the way they are."
These days if you're moderately overweight you think you have a "normal" weight. Well, I guess having a healthy weight would be better than having a normal weight.
I think that what Spain did with their fashion shows was a step in the right direction. It's sad to hear stories about eating disorders and girls saying "Well I want to be as thin as this person and that person". Whether a model or an actress, they sometimes end up as role models for girls. So rather than being a stick or being obese, they should just be healthy looking. And healthy looking comes in different forms. For some people, they are just naturally thin. They shouldn't be poked fun at for being "anorexic" or "bulemic" or anything like that (which, in general with eating disorders, makes me upset. I think having an eating disorder is selfish when there's food plentifully avaliable for someone while in handfuls of countries around the world, children barely have a meal a day). At the same time, 'bigger' people should not be considered "chubby" or "fat", because in the end our body makeup is traced back to everyone's genes.
As for the whole obesity problem, I find it concerning. I remember Jamie Oliver saying that there's a statistic in the UK that the future generation will die about ten years younger than the current generation because of fatty fast foods. If the UK is in that kind of position, I don't even want to think about where the US is. Medicine won't always solve problems with clogged arteries, so it's our own personal duties to be healthy. Plus obesity comes with all those aches and pains and inconveniences.
On the funny note, my Biology teacher had this rant about the world being obsessed with being skinny. He argued that if a world famine occured, the more "meatier" people are going to stay alive.
Heroin Sheak is definitely over.
Women, models, fashion industry execs, and directors everywhere are taking a step in the right direction for once and trying to change the standards of "what's pretty" and "what's fat".
I'm not a huge Tyra fan, but she's making a huge mark.
Obesiy is also a problem in today's society too. The average person in America these days is actually overweight. Some models might be too thin, but if they were made to be the "average size" they would then have to be overweight. Maybe there should be a happy medium. I personally like the fact that most models are very skinny because I feel I can relate better.

The average model in America and the average model in the world are two completely different things. People in america are the fattest people in the world, because lets face it-they like to eat, eat, eat. In europe people have a thing called CONTROL over their bodies and actually watch what they eat.
