Hi, Progressive U bloggers! How are you? I hope all is well as you journey off into the new year.
I am starting a literacy program that will encourage students of all ages to read more. Whether it be fiction or nonfiction or comics or adventures (or blogs), I really want people to enjoy reading as much as possible.
Currently, I am sponsoring a book drive that will give organizations in my community the opportunity to spread the love of books to children.
Well, I need your help! If you are interested in donating any books for the cause, please email me at shayla2004@gmail.com or leave me a message. Any books would be greatly appreciated.
I hope you can help!
Shayla

I'd love to donate books but I was wondering how we could get them to you? Any other info would be great :)
--Pauperes Commilitones Christi Templique Salomonis--
What kinds of books are you specifically looking for donations for? Like, do you have an abundance of young adult books, kids books, etc.?
And yes, how do we get them to you?
This is a wonderful idea!
Currently, I am seeking books for students who are in middle school to college. As of right now, I don't have an abundance of anything, so everything would be appreciated.
In addition, I don't have the funding to pay for shipping fees. So, if you can't afford to ship 10 books, 2 books would be great. Anything to help the cause!
If you are still interested, just email me at shayla2004@gmail.com.
Thanks.
Shayla
I'm collecting books to send to the soldiers in Iraq. I guess that makes us competitors. ;-) In the spirit of friendly competition, I suggest you check out yard sales as sources of good, inexpensive books for your program. Mostly people hold yard sales to clean house, so they usually price books inexpensively, and, if you explain why you want them, they will often cut you a deal.
Also, talk to your local library. They may have some bright ideas for you.
This idea is GREAT! Im sorry but I already give to the libraries in my neighborhood. I also volunteer to help teach/aide those of all ages to read at my local library, so any who are interested in similar services, check out your library, there are tons of things one can do to help others!!!

There is another book drive that I would recommend: Better World Books. However, they accept mainly college textbooks that were published since 2000. Since they do not accept many other types of books, eg. really old library books, we can then donate some of our books to you. There are other options:
1. You can contact Better World Books so that the books that they do not need will be sent to your drive.
2. You can contact libraries as well for their giveaway books.
3. You can have a friendly competition like Better World Books does among the universities/colleges to see who can give the most books.
