Today, June 12th, is Carbon Belch Day. This day is an awareness event by counter-environmentalists whose goal is to debunk the global warming "myth" in order to, ironically, save the planet. Their goal is to unleash a torrent of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, completely on purpose.
The website www.grassfire.org is asking Americans the question, "Are you ready to answer Al Gore's planetary emergency? Grassfire is inviting citizens to purge themselves of carbon guilt by belching as part of Carbon Belch Day today! Over 110 million pounds of CO2 have been set to be released." There is even an official pledge for those who plan to take part on the Carbon Belch Day website. Alarmed? I certainly think we should be.
Carbon Belch Day is being timed to coincide with an energy debate currently in Congress, and one of the day's secondary goals is to encourage Congress to defeat any environmental proposals that would include the advancement of the environmentalist agenda, including the idea of "carbon credits” for industries.
I cannot see the motivation for such a day. Even if you don't believe that global warming is happening because of human activities, shouldn't we all be trying reduce greenhouse gases and other pollutants anyway? Those who support this day claim that rampant environmentalism is destroying people's livelihoods around the world and is a detriment to global progress. One significant trend they quote in support of this claim are rising food prices worldwide, causing starvation and food riots in many poor countries. It can be argued that this trend is partially the result of more soy and corn products being used in the production of biofuels instead of foodstuffs, thus starving the poor.
Also, Carbon Belch Day is a terrible idea because of our gas prices. Any who participates in this day is contributing to foreign countries' oil profits. Many of these nations are our enemies, and yet these people are looking to line our enemies' pockets with even more cash. It is because of the efforts of counter-environmentalists that we may never break our unhealthy addiction to foreign oil, all global warming appeals aside.
The only way to combat this day, I suppose, is for the rest of us to drastically cut our own carbon outputs. Walk to the bank today. Turn off the air conditioner. Don't mow the lawn this week. Take the bus.
Still, I cannot understand why some people would seek to actively undermine our efforts to create a healthy planet for our children.

It's sort of like an ornery child who does something he knows is not allowed, just to get in trouble and be a nuisance.

Mind Control is Easier Than You Think
I hadn't heard of this before and frankly, I'm appalled. Many of my thoughts about this day are mentioned in your post, although if I had tried to write such a post, I would have had a hard time keeping the curse words out >.> This stuff really makes me angry! I don't even understand why they think that releasing that much CO2 into the atmosphere will "stop" the environmentalists? If anything, it would make them (us) more alarmed and eager to gather more supporters.
Really, I don't understand people who are so unconcerned with the planet's health that they're willing to actively harm it. Even if they don't subscribe to the facts of climate change, adding greenhouse gases to our air is OBVIOUSLY not good. *sigh* I need to read some Gary Larson and calm down...

Personally, I see Carbon Belch Day as a protest against global warming theorist. there have been protests and demonstrations by environmentalists to stop global warming so why is this any different? Besides, the number of people who participate is not that much. However, I cant stand reading all the people that post om this issue and say that CO2 is obviously bad. CO2 has not been proven to have a direct correlation with temperatures; only computer models have shown this
