So the presidential campaign just got interesting! Haha...ok I hope you found the sarcasm in that comment. But seriously, now the "gloves are off!" I'm sure you saw it--FOX news was playing the interview between Hannity and Rev. Wright all day yesterday, each time insisting it was "Breaking news!" I'm not sure how something can be breaking news 54 times in a day (probably more! :D), but hey, that's what news is for!
So this Rev. Dr. Jeremy Wright guy is apparently the pastor of Obama's affiliated church (Trinity Church), which he supports fully, or at least has not denounced any of its statements. (This is only what I have read...I'm not saying that it is all true, but I would like some more info to verify these statements...If you have any objections or qualifications to the statements in this blog, please let me know! I'm not a very "political-savvy" person.)
But let's not let that lose any of my credibility here...
Some of those statements are a little out there, I must admit, even though I think people are making too much of a big deal out of this, as always.
But here is the website of the church, which includes many of the statements referred to in the interview: http://www.tucc.org/about.htm so that you can see for yourself!
Here is a paragraph from the "About Us" section: (I actually don't know what to think of this... It is true that if you substituted "White" for the word "Black" throughout the paragraph it would undoubtedly be deemed racist, but when confronted by this statement, Rev. Wright jumps to the history of African Americans, which I suppose delineates the valid difference between the past experiences for both races. I personally believe that we cannot take history lightly or ignore what has happened in the past, but at the same time it is a new generation and I have to hope that people are getting over their differences, slowly but surely, and that all-encompassing claims concerning "who is racist against who" are not payed so much attention to as the individual's stance on such issues. We can't start judging people here...that's where all the "scandals" or misinterpretations start.) Ok wow! So here we go:
"We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community."
Here's the interview on youtube (not the best quality--you may be able to find a better one on FOX's site or something..): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNTGRL0OJWQ
It is definitely worth watching! If not for the argument at hand, for the "cross talk" that goes on between the two when things get a little distorted...
I don't think the interviewer and interviewee were on the same page here, so it really doesn't get anywhere, but it's a good example of a debate gone wrong! Haha...you gotta love ungrounded arguments.
Also, does anyone know if there are any white parishioners at this church? I'm just curious... I mean, would they kick you out or something?

I hate racism and I am not racist! But I expect people not to be racist to my race as well!
I guess it's just not acceptable from any angle, really. Hopefully Rev. Wright sees that.
