In Olympia Greece, three Tibetan protestors rushed out onto the field where the lighting of the torch ceremony was being held, disrupting thousands of spectators. There were many such disruptions like this one, including an incident where a woman covered in red paint lay on the ground, forcing others to weave about her while fellow protestors shouted "Flame of Shame!". While this was broadcasted live around the world, China live t.v. cut away to a previously recorderd scene.
The communist rule in China is having a difficult time controlling the media, because the Olympic games are so widely televised. In fact, one man sent around a petition in China, saying that "We want more human rights, not the Olympic Games." He was sentenced to 5 years in prison for subverting the power of the state.
The most contoversial torch ceremony will surely be in Tibet. I am expecting a mass uprising from then during this ceremony, despite the choking hold of Chinese security. Why not? It would be the perfect time to have a rebellion, as the Olympics are so well known. Keep your eyes open, for anything news related about it.
