Should 5 year-olds have rights as to voting for what they want? I believe yes students should have right but when they are only at the tender age of 5 they dont know any better and are simply being told what to do or what to think or more for the matter what to say.
in my town, a school has been picketting because the kindergarden class would like smaller classes. well its the 5 year-olds that are taking part in this action say that "they deserve the right to vote" but when I look at their signs it does not have their scribble scrabble on their it is clearly teachers hand writing. so it is clear that the teacher and aids are telling the young kids what to do and putting it in their heads that they want smaller classrooms because that's what the teachers and teacher's aids want. what is a 5 year-old going to do but scribble on the paper for who they are voting for? they dont know how to read much less how to write properly. it is ridiculous how these young kids are being taken advantage of and they arent even aware of it because they are small and dont know any better.
seriously, if the teachers want smaller class rooms than they should take it upon themselves to make it happen not force the kids into something they have no idea about whats going on they are only 5.

Although the children are being told what to do, this process helps them learn about the political hempishpere. Sure five years old don't know what they want or may not be able to fully comprehend what they are doing but parents must be involved in this and know what their children are doing. If they (the parents) were to believe that the child is not doing the right thing, then they would stop their child from participating. I also think some underestimate the mental capacity of five year olds. My french teaher has already taught her granddaughters (around the ages of 2-5) how to speak french a lot more fluently than I can and I am in fourth year french! The time to listen to children and teach them how to productively get what they want is when they are little because they will need to know this information when they are 18 and are able to vote.
It's such a slippery slope, this age debate thing. Are 18-year-olds necessarily more politically aware than 17-year-olds? But shouldn't the younger generations have a say on the politics that will affect their lives? I can't puzzle out this dilemma.
they are people too
