Lately there have been numerous new shows on TV. Among the most popular are "reality TV" shows such as Survivor, Big Brother, and American Idol. All of them involve adults that are all trying to get the large sum of money.
Is it overrated?
My mother watches reality TV almost religiously. There hasn't been a season of Survivor that she's missed, and she often asks me watch it with her (I love my mom, so I oblige, however grudgingly). Therefore, I have grown to hate reality TV.
The same things happen in every episode of Survivor and Big Brother. For example, Sally hates Jane. Sally tells Bob that Jane is a wide series of inappropriate things. Bob tells Jane. Jane confronts Sally, Sally denies that she said those things, they get into a fight, and Jane, in her fury and pain, convinces the whole tribe/house to vote out Sally. I do not see how this is quality entertainment. It reminds me of stereotypical high school drama.
American Idol annoys me most. I don't understand why so many people, very few of whom have any discernible singing talent, try out for the show. It seems like people don't care about winning, they just want to be seen by everyone in America on television. Which makes very little sense to me. "Hey guys, I was on national TV!" isn't something to be proud of if it's to demonstrate how horribly you sing.
So when faced with reality TV or a good old book, I'll take the book any day.

I agree with you. Also, they always get worse and worse everytime they have like.. season 7 or season 357290. Whatever happened to those old school days where they had Steve urkle and what not? (that is if you remember them)
Totally agree with the person above me. What happened to sitcoms that were actually funny? and maybe they deviated from what real life is like, but that's the point. when you've had a bad day, you can just sit down and watch Growing Pains or something like that and let go of your stress for an hour or two. I don't want to watch a show that reminds me of every petty argument I got into when I was in high school.
