You Choose

Do you know what your political party stands for? Do you just agree with what your parents believe? I know I used to just agree with my parents without even knowing what they stood for. I still agree with them but for a very different reason. Because I know what I believe in and I know what I'm actually standing for. Before, I was just like, "I believe this because my dad said it was right." Now, I can actually have debates with other people on certain issues because I know why it is right.

When my boyfriend and I first got together I asked him why he was a Democrat. He told me that it was because noone in his family had ever voted Republican. That didn't exactly answer my question. He just told me why he wasn't a Republican. He always accuses me of being a little creation of my dad, and only believing in what my dad believes. I will admit that I was like that, before I learned what the issues in society were today. I've definatley formed my own opinion since then.

I really think that anyone who answers the question: "Why are you a Democrat/Republican?" Should be able to answer without saying a single word about their family. They should respond by stating their own opinions and what they truly believe. I think I would rather someone not vote at all then make an uneducated vote.

I've never agreed with my parents lol. My mom is an uninformed Democrat and my dad is a die hard straight down the party line Republican.

I am a Democrat (and a liberal democrat at that) because I see no progress in staying in the same place or moving backwards as the Republican leadership would have us do in too many instances. It's not progress to deny a couple in love the right to marry, it's not progress to dictate to a woman what she can or can't do, it's not progress to deny those suffering from diseases the hope of research. I'm a Democrat because it's not right that the middle and lower classes are largely ignored, that 40 million Americans don't have health care, that the minimum wage hasn't moved in a decade... the list goes on. Long story short... I've got my reasons and I agree with you in that I hope everyone else has an educated reason (not just a "because so and so said so" reason).

My home is tight republican, but I work a lot to educate my parents on great candidates and issues that are important. We often don't agree, but they listen. I do not associate myself with any political party, why would I want to? I support people, candidates - not parties. I feel that the bi-opoly that is the US political system is a crime and a reflection on what kind of a democracy we have, if one at all. Educate yourself on people and issues, not parties.

I used to always wonder if there were really any differences between the Democrats and the Republicans. I was taught two differences, or so I heard: that Democrats wanted to change and Republicans wanted to keep it real and that Democrats were realistic people while most Republicans were Christians. Honestly, the Democrats are correct for moving on. I think it makes a great difference to grow and change, but we are doing that every day. So why are there democrats? On the other hand, why are there Republicans? The honest truth, I am quite ashamed that Republicans are unwilling to change. I am a believer myself, but that wouldn't' necessarily mean that I am on the Republican's side. It's not about who's side you are on. It's really about the positive actions with positive intentions. Although United States is a land where the people rule, I believe that these two groups are allowing only a certain amount of people take over resulting down to the line "majority rules."

My parents are neither a Democrat or Republican. They simply would vote for the benefits and positive intentions.

For the longest time I adopted the party of my parents simply because I wanted to be like them, and had never heard the opposite side of the spectrum. However, I have finally learned to establish my own opinions and now I know why I believe what I do, which is actually an envigorating feeling.

my parents never EVER even once mentioned their political affiliations with me. in fact, i'm over 18 and i still don't know. i appreciate that they did that, because i made my own decision based on what i deem as right.
