Some people think that there is nothing wrong with putting Queen Anne furniture in a room designed for Post-Modern pieces. Others would walk in and immediately call the fashion police.
Such is the nature of the universe; spiral galaxies are positioned near elliptical galaxies all surrounded by irregular galaxies, haphazardly strewn across a seemingly infinite space, all moving at a couple million miles per hour. Some people can mix Queen Anne and Post-Modern; these are the same insane people that put together the universe.
There can be no logic in the universe, as we understand it. Our arbitrary rules no longer apply, the boundaries are no longer there, the confines of a closed system are repeatedly broken down and, ultimately, annihilated. We cannot contain infinity. We cannot fathom just how big the universe is.
And it’s not just that we can’t imagine it being so massive, it’s that we know that there are pockets of space completely devoid of matter. Emptiness. And yet, there’s such a beauty to be had in the stars, in the galaxies (even if the universe was designed with poor taste in pattern). Space is so splendiferous that we just cannot imagine a better way to organize it. The intricate designs that give galaxies their shape form a sort of rationale to the whole mess. Then we look at an irregular galaxy and the rules are once again obliterated before our eyes.
This beauty in the chaos, the order in the illogical, it’s magic in its purest form. It’s beyond proper description. And even as we speak, even as I write, the universe is changing in such an absurd manner as to defy definition.
