Car weight limits are a big, fat problem

How many of you knew that your car has a weight limit on it?  It makes sense that cars have to have them, but I always thought it was close to impossible to go over the limit!

Did you know many “five-passenger vehicles are rated about 850 pounds, maxxing out if their five occupants weigh more than 170 pounds each” (usatoday.com).    Many two-seater sports cars are not even capable of holding two 200 pound passengers.  David Champion, head of auto testing, says “automakers aren't building cars that can stand up to loads of bigger passengers”.

With America being is the fattest nation in the entire world, who, aside from me, can see this escalating into a huge problem?

This is going to sound really mean, but one time I was driving a lot of people around in my car (which holds six people) and the last girl I went to pick up easily hefts 200 pounds. Quite possibly more. Now, I basically only drive my 86 pound self around, so, in addition to her, I also had four other people in my car. Anyway, when she got in, I could literally feel my car dragging and turning was actually a lot more difficult for me. I'm not a good driver anyway, and seriously, her weight made everything lopsided and stuff. I'm really not trying to be mean, but I KNOW what you're saying is true because her girth caused such a problem I could even feel it =(

It really is an issue. Moreso with motorcycles than cars, but it is indeed an issue.

I'm 6'2" tall, with only a 30" inseam (which means from my backside to my head I'm close to 3 and 2/3rds feet tall)... so my big issue is headroom.

I'm also a pretty hefty guy (working on it, thanks to martial arts and bicycling) and can tell the tilt of the car when I get in. One thing to think about (Yes it sounds horrible, but I'm fat so I can say it. lol) is that when you buy a car from a bigger person, the driver side springs are going to be more worn. Possibly the shocks as well. Seat too.

While America does have a weight problem, which is actually the inverse of the rest of the world (In much of the world, fat people are rich, as they can afford alot of food.... here in the US poor people are fat as they buy the fast food), it should keep in mind that a good way to increase gas mileage is to lower the weight of your car.

lowering your OWN weight is an easy way to do that.

All of that said.... there is such a thing as 'too skinny' and there is still a push to be 'too skinny' . .. don't fall prey to that. It is unhealthy.

To me that's disgusting!!!!!!! Unless you have something medically wrong with you, do something with yourself...Obviously not you sweetie...But in general. 10-15 extra lbs whatever...but many people are way bigger than that. They should be ashamed.
