Starting Feb. 17th 2009 , everyone must have digital t.v. People that already have cable or satellite say , "Well it does not matter . I have it already." But if you just have regular T.V., you say "Oh crap!" Majority of people that have no cable do not have it because they can not afford it or it was cut off because they could not keep up with paying the cable bill. Its already bad enough that gas prices are shooting through the roof.Milk does the body good but the prices rob your pockets . I am one of those people that can not really afford it . So will they lower the price since everyone has to have digital by 2009? I doubt it. The goverment thinks this is such a great idea but what about the people that can't afford it ? Are they going to give us vouchers or what?People are already tapping into their 401(k)s to make ends meet and I'll be dang here comes another mandatory bill. Now don't get me wrong I love watching cable. There is a variety of things for your eyes to explore .You don't have to go see a movie as much or go to blockbuster because they have pay-per-view. No one can never say" There is nothing on T.V.". But still does getting cable have to be so mandatory? Now we have to pinch more pennies, cut more corners, and rob Peter to pay Paul just to get entertainment on the T.V. Its a shame I tell you .Its a shame. I guess the government feels that we are made of money and money grows off of trees in our neighborhoods.

You may want to check out this website (or many others) that discuss the change-over to Digital Cable and what it will mean for those who have analog sets. I have seen (in New York State) advertisements for "coupons" for those people who may not be able to afford the cost of cable or satellite. Contact your local cable station to ask about these programs.

Wait, since when is free digital TV a "right"? Is anyone requiring you to even buy a television in the first place? Why on earth should the government give you money to sit in front of a machine and let your mind rot? Find some other ways to entertain yourself. Try watching the millions of hours of video available on the internet - or maybe read a book or take a walk.
People are given coupons. these knock down the price to about $20-40 bucks which i think is good. I think there should be a ceiling on prices on these coverters.
I am lucky to have cable and now a HDTV. I shopped. There are bargains out there such as smaller tvs for the bedroom. You dont need 1080 unless its in a big room.
