It was 10 months ago when RIAA had its victory over a Jammie Thomas for $222k for sharing 24 songs. This is now in jepardy because of an err which could undo that judgement. Michael lewis ( a district court judge) "raised the possibility of a mistrial. Mr. Lewis said he may have erred in telling the jury that Ms. Thomas was liable for copyright infringement as long as she was “making copyrighted sound recordings available” on KaZaA, no matter if the RIAA could prove that other network users had actually downloaded any of the tunes. That instruction appears to conflict with a binding precedent from the same court, so Mr. Lewis called today’s hearing to examine whether the case should be reheard."
There in lies the proof....can RIAA prove that a song on your computer is really yours. That is the question. I mean How can they prove that you did not own the music in question from such as making mp3s from records. There are a lot of issues. Some companies do not like breaking DRM protections on music and there are programs like Tunebite out there which removes that so itunes can be played on any MP3 not just specified products.
Real Player MP3 store says it is DRM free but you are only allowed to use it one computer. There is something wrong. I mean when you look at the price of a CD of music not much goes to the artist. Only a small percentage....that is why you see some people go broke so quickly. You look at for instance the availiablity of certain tunes out there. There are not on Itunes or other services but only offered to foreign users on their own sites which people in the USA can not use.
The public had blueray jammed down in the throats and we are forced to change. RIAA overcharges for these songs. They also charge unequal amounts for online radio. You never heard of online radio. It is shoved in the back. They have to pay more than their offline counterparts. This is wrong. It used to be in the old days you could listen to music from the off line stations online but now you can not and the same for ballgames played on those stations. It is all about profit and using the search engine powered ballgames broadcasted online.
It is cheaper to have a sattelite radio rather than pay the exorbant overpricd fee per sport and/or team.
Groups fight against the RIAA and MPAA as well as bloggers. There are people who want to silence bloggers as we are considered to be non journalists. I think we are journalist in our own way. We write about that which we know or care to talk about.
